My husband and I were looking for a different experience other than a HUGE ship with thousands of people that you would probably not meet up with again (unless you made arrangements to do so). We thoroughly enjoyed a smaller ship and the intimacy of a smaller group of people that you would become acquainted with and travel with as a group on shore.

The food was excellent in quality and quantity with a diversity in presentation of many types of meals. In addition, the offering of wine with dinner was especially nice. The meals were served by pleasant servers who were willing to cater to your needs. The luncheon buffets were plentiful, and equally delicious!

Our stateroom was larger than we expected. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and the sliding door that opened to the views and fresh air was wonderful. The closet area was generous. The only disadvantage was the limited space in the shower.

For the limited time that we spent on-board, other than meals and overnight, we enjoyed the music, and the presentations.

We thought that the excursions were the places that we would have liked to have done, the cities and the tour guides were excellent choices. Of course we would have liked to have spent more time in some places, but because we were on a schedule we had to move on. Overall, the excursions were well done.

This was one of our favorite trips, not only for the places we got to see, but also because of the wonderful cruise, and of the excellent staff. We would recommend Avalon for a river cruise, and hopefully we will get to do another in the near future.
