Itinerary: paris to nice France

This was my first river cruise on Avalon. I have been on numerous other companies. The ports and cities were very interesting but I was not as impressed with the ship.

Breakfast was a buffet with poor selection and food was not warm enough. Lunch was worse; it had the same problems as breakfast but with less choice for main course, salads and especially desserts. Dinner was a little better, there was more selection and food was a bit warmer, but still poor deserts.

The main complaint I have was the awful smell. It was like a sewer for most of cruise. I made complaints and deodorizers sprayed, etc but still the smell remained. Then the bathroom lighting was so poor it was almost dangerous, especially at night. The rest of cabin was fine.=

There were no day time activities to speak of. The boat had a small library, small jacuzzi and a few port lectures. They did have a few nights of entertainment. There was a gypsy band and french singer, but half of people could not see due to the poor lounge layout.

I didn't go on any excursions as they were too pricey. I did tours on our own.

It was a 13 day trip, starting in Paris for 2 days. Then 3 hour bus trip to the boat. I went to many small cities, such as Viviers, Chalon du Sur,Beaune, Avignon, Lyon and Nice. The nice part of France and scenery great. I really would not take another cruise with this company, due to all the problems I encountered.
