My cruise experience with Carnival was Ups and Downs (yes, all puns intended). I expected just a little more and got a little less. Overall, any quality time I spend with my wife and kids are great, and my kids did enjoy themselves. On the other hand my wife and I ran into some ups and downs.

With respect to taste, the food was ok, but as far as hot or cold, it was more like warm. Our waiter Ronny was great. The service was good and the conversation was good. Cruise food is what it is, and there is no comparison to home cooked food so as for taste my wife and I were fine with the taste (would have preferred for the hot food to actually been served hot, and we know it was not Ronny's fault at all).

Our stateroom was fine. We really liked our cove balcony.

Down: There was not much in the way of late entertainment. The candle burned out early, and instead of sparkling bubbles we got a mild fizzle. My eldest son and his best friend were not impressed with the night life. The clubs were not up to par with the party image Carnival promotes. The oversized bathtubs Carnival calls pools were an insult. My son and his friend made the best of it, but my wife and I stay away from the large wash tubs (pools).

Up: The comedians were ok. The shows were entertaining. The live merengue band sounded very pleasant.

Up: We really really enjoyed Tulum ruins. It was hot as hell that day, and it was worth it. If do not enjoy the heat, walking or iguanas stay on the ship. On the other hand if you don't mind some heat (drink lots of water), don't mind walking off some of the food you will consume and exploring then the ruins excursion is for you.

The beach at Rotan was beautiful. Costa Maya was nice, but the constant drizzle rained on the parade.

Down: Belize fell short. It's a very commercial. You may want to either stay on the ship or go on an excursion for sure.

This was my family's first cruise with Carnival. The Carnival Dream is a large ship that at first glance is impressive, but certain details sort of damper that first impression.

Down: Our cabin seemed to have been located under a very noisy bawling alley (galley). A slight rotten egg odor. Slow elevators. The ship's setup is does not possess an easy flow to follow in getting around. Yes, there is a slight rocking, but it is not as bad (at least when we were on the ship) that would warrant cry about.

Up: The ship was overall, clean. Even though our cabin seemed to have been located under a bowling alley, customer serve was quick and very good in responding. The issue was addressed as best as it could be. My wife and i were satisfied with the resolution to the problem.

Overall, in the end was my cruise the best it could be, maybe not, but would I sail with carnival again, Yes.
