Itinerary: Barcelona

The new ship lacked the class of the Carnival Liberty. The rooms were much smaller, the service not at all up the scratch and the ship tended to part so far out at locations where the harbor was at its cheapest and ugliest . MSC is much better . They make sure their cruise ships stop close to the centre of the historic port and arrange shuttle boats to take us straight into town. Carnival could learn from this. I was annoyed about the Euro 12 they charged just to take us into Marseille from the harbor. What a cheek!

It was fine but not at all up to standard in comparison with the Carnival Liberty of 4 years ago and MSC.

Small . MSC has much better cabins with dressing rooms, even for inside cabins that are not expensive. Costa Concordia (2009) also and better cabins

Limited. They should have more activities like P&O cruises who used to have painting lessons; French lessons; art appreciation classes; real interesting port talks and not just cheap sales talk to get tourists to the shops they want but to tell them about historic interesting locations. The entertainment on P&O was much higher quality ( better class performers) Even in 1995 P&O had better quality performers, lecturers to talk on ports etc. Much more finesse. One can easily see that carnival hires people who have no real experience.

The cruise itinerary was great except for Barcelona as the start point, the most dangerous city I have yet visited, where the sirens go off every 10 minutes for police in town.

If they would just stop closer to the city old ports where all the beautiful building are it would be so much better. The ship was otherwise ok. Be mindful they charge VAT on products you buy in the shop, even if the ship is outside of local waters; I found this annoying as it should then be tax free. many people don't realize it.

I enjoyed the stops in the various cities. The accommodation was fine and they always put shower jel in the bathrooms, which was nice. It annoyed me that they were not good with putting people of the same age group together at tables during meals.
