I read so many of these reviews and they were so helpful that I had to post mine
as soon as I returned. Overall this cruise was GREAT!! My friend and I went
together - 2 women.
Embarkation: The lines were long, but within 30 minutes we were on the
ship. We moved continuously.
Conquest: The ship was beautiful. It is definitely a city in a ship. The
staff were continuously cleaning. All of the bathrooms I encountered were clean.
The carpets in the hallways were stained and need to be replaced, but I really
didn't notice it. Do not book any spa treatments the 1st day...the prices
continually drop as the week goes on. The 1st and last night of the cruise were
a little rough - we felt movement, but never anything frightening and the crew
kept us aware of the weather.
We had a hard time finding deck chairs by the main pool. Alot were empty, but
people would put thier clothes and bags on them. We made due though. The water
slide was FUN. I am a kid at heart so I went down it A LOT!!
Cabin: We had an interior cabin on the 7th deck. We never heard anything
or were ever disturbed. We really like the room, the closets and the drawers
allowed us to unpack and feel at home for the week. The bathroom was a nice
size, our shower didn't drain effectively, but nothing major. We loved our room
steward...he was friendly and talked to us and took care of all of my little
requests quickly. The room was cleaned twice a day.
Dining: Because we were so busy we only ate in the main dining room 2
nights, but both times the food was good and the service was great. We always
ate breakfast on the Lido deck. It was average, but not bad. The grill and pizza
were average to me. Anything that had grilled chicken thru out the boat was
good. Room service has a chicken fajita wrap that was to die for. Overall, my
only complaint was the fruit punch and lemonade needed to seriously be
diluted...we always added water. It was drinking syrup without it.
Entertainment: I thought that the staff were funny and personable. You
could tell some stuff was rehearsed, but for the most part worked. As the week
wore on we were tired and missed alot of the night shows. There was a Broadway
show that was really good. And my favorite was the Carnival Legends show. Where
the guests had auditioned to play performers such as Elvis, Garth Brooks, Aretha
Franklin and others. The show turned out to be unforgettable. Especially since
the performers auditioned in the karoke room and we spent alot of time there.
Karaoke was fun, but I think the guests made it fun. Some people took it to
serious others clowned around alot. We went to the disco a few nights and it had
a nice crowd and we liked the D.J. That whole "block" of clubs and casinos was
great to me. You could sit and people watch or get up and dance!
I am not a big drinker, but I did partake in a few drinks and I can say it did
not take many. The drinks gave you the bang for the buck!!
MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA: We have been here twice before so we knew what to
expect. After reading other reviews we booked an excursion to A-Z Jamaica
Planners. http://www.a-zjamaicaplanners.com. They were great. Clive was our
driver. The tour included a trip to Mayfield Falls and Margaritaville. Mayfield
Falls were great, I thought they were better than Dunns River Falls because it
was less crowded and less commercialized...the drive up the mountain is A LOT
though. On the way down we asked Clive to take us to Aquasol beach. He dropped
the other guests off shopping, picked up some lunch for us and then took us to
the beach. On schedule 3 hours later he came back and picked us up. It was
great. Carnival didn't have this tour and the prices for Carnival's tours were
much more. I highly recommend them!! I was nervous about going thru the web to
book the tour, but it all worked out fine.
The line to get back on the boat was LONG!!! It took about an hour...it took
less time at the other 2 ports where we tendered.
Grand Cayman: Once again, I followed other reviewers suggestions and
booked thru Captian Marvins. http://www.captainmarvins.com. Because of high
winds we could not dock where originally scheduled. We docked on the other side
of the island, but Captain Marvins was there to get us. We went out with the
Stingrays. This was really interesting. Once again cheaper than Carnival's tour
and we saw a boat of people from Carnival right next to ours. I highly recommend
them.
Cozumel: We rented a jeep and drove around the island. We went to a
secluded beach...the best margaritas I have ever had!! But you can visibly tell
the island has hurricane damage. I would recommend going to Playa da Mia beach.
you pay to get on, but they have fixed it up. Once again we tendered, but we
didn't wait more than 5 minutes. Carnival worked very hard with the tender boats
to move than many people.
Disembarkment: We decided to self assist because we missed our family and
were ready to get home. The whole process took less than 30 minutes and if you
can I recommend it. We didn't want to have to sit around and then search for our
luggage.
Overall, we had a great time. There was always something to and entertaining. I
laughed a lot and this vacation was truly a great trip. I would recommend this
boat and crew!! I hope this review helped people because so many other reviews
help me!! Have a great trip!
