This was our third Carnival
cruise and our fifth overall cruise. We thoroughly enjoyed sailing on the
Conquest! Really nice crew and beautiful ship, they really had a lot to offer.
EMBARKATION- Easy, once again. They keep 2500 people moving and we were
on the ship in about 45 minutes.
SHIP - A newer Carnival ship and I would put this in a very high class of
overall beauty. It is extremely ornate and I just loved the artwork in every
room. Very clean and nicely kept. They were replacing carpet down one hall to
keep up the nice look. Our room was HUGE for a cruise ship. We had a balcony
room and it was extremely nice. Big bathroom with plenty of elbow room in the
shower. I was very impressed with the room - extremely homelike. The dining room
(Renoir) was equally wonderful and the food was just as you'd expect on Carnival
- great! The service was great as were the waiters. The bars and bartenders were
great as well, nothing to complain about. Common areas were plush and very cozy.
This is an extremely decorated ship.
CREW - I can't say enough about the crew. They were incredible. From the
first person we saw in Galveston to the last person we saw in Galveston upon
return they all went out of their way to help and serve us. This crew in
particular picked up 29 Cuban refugees off the coast of Jamaica and they were
taken care of on board. We were given constant updates as to the health of them
and where the new passengers would be taken. It was neat to be able to witness
this rescue and to see the heroicness of the crew. All the while maintaining a
vacation atmosphere for the rest of the ship, the crew was heros to the people
trying to escape to freedom. That should show how wonderful this crew is. The
ship never skipped a beat on giving its passengers a vacation of a lifetime
hitting all ports on schedule and keeping up a grand atmosphere on board.
PORTS- Jamaica - Beautiful mountains, and blue blue ocean. The people
here are very pushy, and sometimes try to sell things that shouldn't be sold.
You really need to watch that here. Don't let your kids go onto the island alone
- especially teens. We went to Negril beach and Margaritaville. It was
beautiful, but again, you have to watch your safety here. Keep your little ones
right with you.
PORTS - Grand Cayman - Grand Cayman is our favorite. The most beautiful
of water and the nicest of people. We normally enjoy the snorkeling here but
this time we went early to Seven Mile Beach and since we went very early we had
the beach to ourselves and it was so relaxing and beautiful. Go early if you can
- it is well worth it!
PORTS - Cozumel - Poor Cozumel with Wilma hitting last year it really
shows - still a beautiful place, but the building are obviously hurt. Instead of
the normal dock that is now destroyed, we took a ferry on to the mainland.
WARNING - that ferry is very nice, as it looks like a 747 but it is extremely
rocky and you will get sea sick on it. Take Bonine, or Dramamine - something to
curb that. I would not drink a lot on Cozumel and then board that ferry to come
back, it will make you very sick! The ferry ride is about 45 minutes long. In
Cozumel we went to Puerta Aventuras to the Dolphin Discovery Resort for the
Dolphin Encounter. WOW! Beautiful resort with a great staff and the sweetest
Dolphins and other marine life. We really enjoyed this with our 10 year old.
Don't miss out!
OVERALL - Obviously we really had a great time on this cruise. No
complaints at all on this trip. I do wish Carnival would not allow you to save
seats on the Lido deck. It is horrible to come out on days at sea and try to get
a chair. Good luck with this! I also wish that they would allow you to dine with
just your family if you wish - Grand Princess does this and I enjoy that much
more. It is a FAMILY vacation - not a trip to meet other people in my opinion. I
will say that the head of the dining room placed us with other couples with
children around the same ages so atleast they put forth effort into making it
enjoyable dining. My husband got a sinus infection at one part of the trip and
had to go to the infirmary. He was very pleased here as well with the doctor on
board. This cruise was great and I advise anyone who wants to have a nice and
fun cruise to go and enjoy it!
