Itinerary: Southern Caribbean
My wife and I just returned for from a 7 –day cruise
on the cruise ship Destiny from January 12- 19th. Everything from beginning to
end was fantastic.
Arrival at the airport was breeze. We got our luggage and went to a waiting bus
that brought us right to the ship. This is one big ship! We got to our room and
other than the location it was great. Very clean, well laid out, and plenty of
storage for over packers like ourselves. Our room steward was very pleasant &
talented with the towel animals.
The food on ship was great. If you chose to eat dinner in the dining room the
food seemed to be a little better than at the buffets. Make sure to order two
entrees to try something different. The buffets did have their place though. The
made to order omelets were awesome. In the evening the seafood and pasta was to
kill for. Pizza any time during the day was better than anything you could get
in Minnesota. The Destiny Bar was our bar of choice. It was next to the casino
and with Rodney & Eugienia making the drinks an taking care of us it was the
best bar on the ship. The ports-of-call were all great and each something to
offer us.
St. Thomas: Best place to shop for jewelry. The merchants were glad to help us
easy to barter with as long as you know what you really wanted. We went to Coki
Beach instead of Magen’s bay. We were told that this beach is not as crowded.
Well worth the taxi trip there. Beautiful sand beach and great scenery across
the water. There were always people waiting on you: food, drinks, chairs or hair
braids they had it all.
Martinique: Beautiful island. We went on snorkeling trip and the water was
crystal clear. The boat brought us to two locations to snorkel so we could see
the difference in fish and their surroundings. One was a secluded beach outside
a small fishing village, which had shallow water and a lot to see. The rum punch
and my wife dancing with the captain made her day.
Barbados: We went on an island tour. It was a nice tour but after watching and
hearing how much fun they had on the Jolly Roger ship I wish we would have done
that instead. The spots that we went to were interesting: sugar cane plantation,
signal hill and St. John’s church. Don’t forget the shopping it is great.
Aruba: This was by far the prettiest island. We went snorkeling on Pelican ll
and anchored at “Arashi” on the west point of the island. Shopping is must with
all the unique souvenir shops. What can I say about Carlos and Charlie’s the
place rocks.
Fun days at sea: Very relaxing and a great place to people watch. Make sure to
get up early if you want one of the “prime” lounge locations. They go early. Hot
tubs during the day were very busy but later at night, under the stars, they
were very enjoyable. You meet a lot of interesting & fun people through out the
wee. They had a little bit of entertainment for everyone. The men’s hairy chest
contest was a hit, as Tarzan had to do his call whenever anyone would ask.
TARZAN – Had a great time at the bar – Linda!!!!!
We would for sure cruise with Carnival again. When Tiffany at Tickets-N-Trips
let us down Carnival came through to take care of us on the next cruise even
though they didn’t create the problem. What a class cruise line. Make sure to
check out your travel agents before putting down you hard earned cash - we sure
will.
