Itinerary: Bahamas
Booked April 2004 with Balcony Guarenteed cabin from Cruises Only. Checked
in at Port about 12:00 noon, minor delay since we did not have preassigned
cabin and baggage handler had to look up cabin #. Did not see any
advantage to having filled out pre-boarding pass. Line moved quickly and
we were on board by 1PM.
Our cabin was 4800 and was very nice, unfortunatly it was directly below
the Red Sail Cafeteria's which are used for excess seating from late night
buffet.
We constantly had the sound of people walking over head and the food
service people moving carts until 2 or 3 in the morning. Not at all what
we expected for a good nights sleep.
The first night was interuppted at 2AM by "right foot, left foot, watch
out for the wall, you can make it honey"
Also had the experience of listening to a 50 YO + bragging about changing
a friends room service request and ordering all kinds of goodies and then
sitting there while the guest screamed at room servive for the screw up. I
might expect that from my 17 YO, but not an adult. Carnival isn't going to
eat that expense, it gets passed on to the customer as a cost of doing
business.
Dining Room, food was OK, nothing special. We had table 136 in Golden
Dining Room, early seating, and had 2 Suzana's as our waitresses,
fantastic service. Did request a cake for my wife's birthday for 10/03 but
never saw it.
We did eat in Emerald Room on two different nights, well worth the money.
Buy your liquor in St Thomas vs St Martin, you can bring in 1 ltrs/person
+ 2 /ltrs person purchased in St Thomas. I bought in St Martin and had to
go to customs and declare excess, but amount was waived as less than
$10.00.
Shore Excursions: with all the hurricanes we had in Fla we didn't dare
book anything in advance. We did book a tour to St John's on board. Worth
every penny. I had read where others had booked on their own, and I've
done it myself on other cruises, but this was great, all we had to do was
walk about 100 feet from Glory to our tour boat, same on return.
Return customer comments: We have 2 cruises on Carnival and 2 on Royal
Carribbean. No comparision, RCCL gave use Fanny Packs,Coupons for Casino
and Drinks,Discounts at Spa, Cocktail party, wine tasting etc. Carnival
cocktail party and a pin.
Wine tasting $8.00/person.
Overall I would be very hard pressed to do another Carnival Cruise. I
chose Carnival over RCCL bases on price, but yoy get what you pay for.
Don't mean to be too harsh on Carnival, but if you are looking to party,
Carnival is the one. If you want a peaceful and enjoyable cruise go to
RCCL.
