Pros: Good amount of elevators and good
people flow. Restaurant staff is great with kids. Category 11 is terrific for
those traveling with children. The diversity and quality of the food was
surprisingly good. The balconies were large enough and the rails were high
enough so you didn't seem trapped. No rush, painless, debarkation (we could stay
in our rooms until we got off and breakfast went until 9:30 so we could miss the
crowds).
There were a LOT of photographers. This could be annoying; however, it also
meant that you could always get a picture whenever you and your family were
ready. We got some great ones of our girls.
Cons and/or items I wished I knew before the cruise:
No deck chairs on the promenade deck!!!!!!! We liked to hang out there but
couldn't. Also the lounge chairs weren't the most comfortable. I'm thinking of
bringing my own next time. Lack of hangers (bring your own). One outlet for the
entire cabin, and they make you "rent" a strip cord. No conditioner (the soap
bottle in the bath felt cheap). The pursers were.....stiff. One actually told me
that we couldn't compare Carnival to Princess or Royal Caribbean (this was when
I was trying to get a strip cord for my daughters' nebulizer... why can't we
compare?).
The kids club was fine but not extraordinary. They let the children watch a lot
of movies and TV. We ended up only putting our 31/2 year old in for the two sea
day mornings and one port day and our older one went only two mornings. Oh
well.... I didn't think the staff was all that fantastic, but they did try.
The entertainment was fine although our children like more "shows". The casino
had a lot of smoke and is in the middle of the ship so you and your kids must
walk through it.
We went to three ports. We really liked the snorkeling catamaran excursion on
St. Lucia. Our 8 year old saw a lobster and sea turtle. Our youngest enjoyed the
butterfly garden on St. Maarten. This we did on our own. It was fine to rent a
taxi and then pay the admission fee. It was also A LOT cheaper than going
through the cruise.
All in all it was a fine cruise and good value. I'd book again with Carnival. It
wasn't pretentious and most of the staff was helpful and friendly. We like sea
days and going on LONGER cruises i.e.: 10 nights; it is a shame that Carnival
doesn't seem to have longer cruises. This ship really was great value for the
money.
