Very disappointed for what we paid.

Food/Dining – Bring Imodium! My first food in the Unicorn Lounge after boarding the ship resulted in a bad case of diarrhea 4 hours later. Dinner that evening in the Truffles Restaurant was served maybe at room temperature at best and we never did get our dinner rolls. Ok, it was the first day. The next morning and subsequent meals offered at the Unicorn Lounge the hot food was cold and the cold food was room temperature. The next three nights in the Truffles Restaurant were ok, but on Friday after waiting for 45 mins. after being seated we finally got our meals, both COLD. We promptly informed the waiter who returned 15 mins later with more cold food. We were not happy. Spoke with the head waiter who apologized. The deserts were not that good and my wife had a steak one night that was very tough. We did have a very pleasant young lady from Russia by the name of Tatiana that seated us a number of times. The card on the table listed a head waiter and two assistants, but we never saw more than one. On Royal Caribbean we had three waiters tending to us at all times. Saturday was another case of digestive problems and more of the same in the dining areas. We never even bothered going to dinner Saturday night. Room service coffee was brought to you in a carafe that the coffee didn’t stay hot more than a few minutes and no matter how big you wrote extra sugar on the order slip you got what they gave you. Enough for maybe one packet per cup.

Room – our room which was at the rear of the ship with a balcony was very nice. During the rough weather we experienced on Saturday, nine foot plus seas and 43 mph winds, it was a little bouncy/rolling but not too bad. The scary part was when a deck chair from up above flew off and crashed on the balcony area before falling into the water. I guess the crew didn’t bother to secure all the deck chairs properly. We were very happy we were not on the balcony when this occurred or we could have been injured.

Entertainment – The entertainment was weak at best. If you like being entertained by the Cruise Director Josh who went by “Big Sexy”, his assistants – Peanut and Buttercup – both “males” and a couple of sloppily dressed female assistants then I guess you would be ok. The shows were certainly on the low budget end and the male singer in the Follies Lounge where the “major” shows were done should really look for another career. The comedians were good, but did repeat performances each time and only lasted 30 mins. at best. The juggler/comedian was great. He was very entertaining. The Super Star entertainment was really enjoyable also. It was Karaoke with a live band. There were some really talented people on the ship that Carnival should consider hiring compared to their current entertainment staff. The magician was awful. You could barely understand anything he was saying with his heavy foreign accent and the trick we watched with the invisible deck of cards was really bad. There was no dance music unless you wanted to go to the disco lounge which wasn’t very busy due to the predominately senior crowd.

Ports of Call/Excursions – the itinerary was changed during our trip and instead of stopping at Belize we went to Costa Maya, which actually from what I understand was a good thing. The other ports Grand Cayman, Cozumel, Routan were nice, but typical of most cruise ports, just shops. The excursions were pricy and if you look at what you get for your money, many of then you have paid a bunch of money for a couple of hour bus ride to and from the excursion site.

In summary, it was good to get away to some warmer weather and to relax, but I really don’t think I will spend my money with another Carnival cruise unless the reviews get better. The gratuities are automatically added to your bill, so regardless of service you have no choice. If I was getting the same level of service/entertainment/food elsewhere I wouldn’t have been inclined to pay what I did for this cruise.
