We decided to take a honeymoon cruise aboard the Carnival Legend. Before
we did so we read review after review and most of them were not so nice so
I wanted to write what I thought about the ship.
Embarkation was a breeze. We got there very early and were the first
people to get on board. Take advantage of the fun pass and register
online.
When we got on board they told us to go to the Unicorn Cafe because our
room was not ready yet. We got on the elevator to go to lunch but couldn't
wait to see our room so we got off our floor and proceeded there.
Our room was very nice. We had huge balcony and our room was very spacious
and we had a nice size bathroom and a whirlpool tub.
We then left and went to the Unciorn Cafe. I cannot say one negative thing
about it. The food is very good and its beautiful. There is silverware and
linens on every table all ours of the day. The deserts are a treat too.
When we arrived, we had an invitation to the Supper Club for our
honeymoon. You do have to pay for that restaurant. Its $30pp but it is
well worth it. It was an experience of a lifetime.
The service is unbelievable. Your silverware is changed with every course
and given to you off silver platters. It is definitely a must see.
We took the late seating in the main dining room, Truffles. That too is a
really nice restaurant and the food is really good. The Gala Buffet is a
sight to see as well.
The entertainment was ok. We saw a few nice shows. The activities on board
though are very juvenile but we did get a few laughs watching them.
The Carnival Staff is incredible. The waiters, cabin stewards, bar tenders
are very friendly and make your stay enjoyable. Edwin is awesome. And the
towel animals are the best. You will take pictures of every one.
One thing I do want to say is that people told me before cruising that I
wouldn't feel the boat and you do feel it. I did not get sick but it was
definitely rocking. We did encounter some bad weather.
Now I'd like to tell you some things that I did not like about our cruise.
Although I like leaving out of New York to avoid flying, I felt we were at
sea way too long and would opt to fly next time.
I did not particularly like the decor aboard the legend. It is very gaudy
but the staircases are beautiful.
The ports of call were nice. We did not however like San Juan. We opted
not to take any shore excursion there. We just walked around and found it
dirty and not appealing. It was also pouring out so we just headed back on
board.
We did take two other excursions and now I will have to tell you some
negative things. The cruise director, who is very comical, tells you about
the excursions but doesn't give you nearly enough information.
We took one to St. John Trunk Bay. It was unbelievable but we didn't get
to be there long. It took an hour and a half to get there and an hour and
a half to get back so we were only on the island for an hour and its
supposed to be a four hour excursion.
The other excursion we took was to Virgin Gorda and island off Tortola. I
will first tell you that it is an amazaing sight and I am very happy I got
to see it but all they told us about this tour was that you took a boat to
the island and a bus to the top of the baths and then you enter this
beautiful beach with rock formations that make their own pools.
When we arrived at the top of this mountain a tour guide got our attention
and gave us some information. She told us that there were three beaches.
You had to walk down this rocky trail to get to the first beach and then
to get the second one she told us we had to be physically fit and
explained that that meant able to bend. We have no problem bending so we
decided to go for it.
To get to the first beach you have to go down this rocky trail which is
360 yards away. That wasn't too bad, but to get to the second beach, which
is supposed to be the best one, we had to travel through caves and climb
boulders using tree branches that are not stable. Mind you no one tells
you this so we were in beach attire and flip-flops. Once we got there it
was amazing but I would consider it very dangerous and more information
should be given.
As far as our shipmates go, most people were very friendly. We were
however on board with a lot of seniors and there were the few that were
not very polite.
If you are a younger group I would ask your travel agent to check the ages
that will be traveling aboard with you.
Leaving the ship was a breeze. We put our luggage out the night before,
went to the Unicorn Cafe and waited for them to call the color of our tags
and we were off fairly quickly.
Overall I would say we had a great time. I was very happy with the food
and the service. I would recommend carnival to my friends but I would like
to try another cruise line in the future.
Happy sailing to all of you that will be taking this cruise. In my opinion
you will enjoy it.
