This is my second and probably last Carnival cruise. Much prefer Norwegian, Celebrity or Royal Caribbean. The embarkation process was a mess. We did arrive later rather than earlier - 2:30 pm and the lines were very long. All crew members were very nice and friendly. Cabin - extended balcony 8157 was on the small side and noisy when an event was going on above (right below the deck where the outside buffet was one evening). We tried the buffet for breakfast the first morning at sea and it was noisy, crowded and confusing. They set up breakfasts in so many different areas you had to scout around and squeeze thru crowds to find out what was being served. We had the rest of our meals in the main restaurant. Food was ok but not memorable. Coffee at the buffet was bad - restaurant much better. If you wanted a decent cup of regular coffee and some nice cookies, etc. you could pay for them at a few coffee stands they had around the ship. On NCI Voyager of the Seas they provided this and much more for free. Hamburgers were good on the buffet.

This was a very smoky ship. They allowed smoking in almost all the bars (they even had a cigar bar right before you walked into the dining room!), casino and the starboard side of all the outside pool decks. I traveled with someone who has asthma and we were very careful to sit on the right side. One day a group of people lit up on the left side of the ship. When our drinks were delivered I asked the crew member if we were on the correct side for non-smoking and he said yes. I then asked him to ask the smokers to either put out their cigarettes or move and he said he couldn't do that because that would be rude and they are our guests (I guess I wasn't a guest). He told me to contact security, but he wouldn't do that for me. Another crew member in an all white uniform more the less said the same thing even when I told him my companion was asthmatic. I find this incredible.

I slept in the upper berth. The twin beds had lovely down comforters and duvet covers. My blanket was a coarse blue one. I asked the cabin steward if I could have one of the down comforters and he said no - not for the upper berth.

The purser's desk personnel for the most part were abrupt and sometimes nasty.

We found ourselves looking for events during the day. They could use more activities - many other cruisers said the same thing. Karaoke was on very late most evenings. That is something cruisers enjoy doing and watching.

All in all, I guess for the price it was ok, but I seriously doubt I would use Carnival again unless it is a great price but you do get what you pay for.

As I said above, the cabin stewards and restaurant personnel were lovely.
