As a first time cruiser I was extremely disappointed in our cruise selection. The ship catered to families and was absolutely not for couples just wanting to relax. Carnival did not enforce dress codes, which was disappointing to those of us wishing to experience something a little classier than usual, nor did they enforce the adult only area which would have been the only tiny part of the ship for peace and quiet.

As far as the Lido deck buffet, it was terrible and plentiful. The selection was limited, tasteless and all around poor. The dessert bar was nothing more than what you can buy in the freezer section of your local supermarket and actually not always even that good. The pizza bar was comparable to arcade pizza establishments at best. The fish in the fish and chip shop was nasty (talapia) and the chips were again frozen french fries which were under cooked.

We ate most meals in the dining room where the food was better even with the very limited selection. The service in the dining room was excellent. Some evening meals were supplemented with the courtesy room service which mainly consisted of sandwiches, but thank heaven for that option. We did dine at Harry's Supper Club one night and it was as perfect as the other food was bad. That was the highlight of the food experience and I highly recommend it to everyone willing to pay the $30/pp plus tip.

Our stateroom was very nice and clean. It was very roomy even though we didn't upgrade to the more expensive cabins with views. The cleaning staff came by twice a day and kept our cabin and bathroom facilities very clean. Of course the towel animals were adorable and we looked forward to what we would find in the evenings. All staff on board were very friendly and respectful.

The entertainment was very poor for our taste. The lounge singers were so boring that no one went to the lounges. I think the busiest night at the Piano Bar had maybe ten people in there. Most nights as we would walk by the two pianists would just be standing there talking to each other because the lounge was empty. The presentations were often so late at night that we couldn't participate. We couldn't find anything to do onboard that kept us awake long enough to see a midnight show. The two exceptions to that were the hypnotist and the salute to Frank Sinatra/Sammy Davis Jr. Those two shows were excellent except for the fact that the teenagers were the first ones on stage for the hypnotist, so once again if you just wanted to see teenagers be entertained then you would have enjoyed this performance. The ship only had a few very small pools and the same twenty people hung out by them all day each day because that's all they could accommodate. We considered the "Fun Days at Sea" painfully long and boring.

The champagne catamaran sail in St Thomas was nice but overpriced and not exactly as advertised. It sounded glamourous and like something adults could enjoy as a luxury with the thoughts of champagne, bread and cheese and island tunes, but it ended up being one milk jug of rum punch, cheap supermarket bread cut up, hot cheddar and pepper jack cheese (warm from sitting out in the sun) and a little cut up fruit. As for the island tunes, we were asked if we wanted to listen to reggae or rock and roll. At $99/pp, this was a rip off. Take a cheaper excursion; you won't miss a thing.

We are in our mid-forties and wanted a relaxing vacation without breaking the bank. We were so disappointed by this whole experience that we probably will never take another cruise but for sure will not sail with Carnival. It was low budget and geared to families or those who simply wanted to drink more than they probably should have and didn't need anything form of entertainment other than expensive, bad booze.
