We have cruised before on Royal Carribbean, Princess and Carnival ships in the past. The cruise we took on the Carnival Triumph (November 27-December 2) was not up to our usual expectations in the areas of crew courtesy and food options. If we had never cruised before and had no prior cruises to compare it to we would have considered it to be a good experience. The cabin was large and clean and the ship was in good overall condition. The embarkation procedures at the Port of New Orleans was long and tedious, taking us over two hours to board the ship as compared to a 30-45 minute norm for our previous Princess and Royal Carribbean cruises. The destinations were good and egress from the ship was easy in both Cozumel and Progresso. The disembarkation at the end of the cruise in New Orleans was very smooth and quick. There was a much higher percentage of rude and obnoxious passengers on this cruise out of New Orleans than any previous cruise we had taken....(NOT the cruise lines fault).

The food served in the Paris dining rooms was above average quality and the wait staff was courteous. The buffet on the other hand was pathetic compared to other cruises we have taken. There was maybe a third of the buffet food options available as compared to our last cruises on Royal Caribbean and Princess. The desserts were generally old and had been frozen prior being put out. The wait staff in the main buffet dining room (Deck 9) was totally inattentive and not polite at all. Not once did a waiter offer to get us anything or even refill a glass of water. They just stood around looking like terrorists that hated Americans.

The balcony stateroom was fine, plenty of room and storage. We only saw our roon steward a couple of times and he only checked on us once in five nights. There were no nice extras we had experienced on prior cruises (Royal Caribbean & Princess) like towel animals, candy in the room, etc... Just the basics.

The shows were good and profesionall done.

My recommendation is that you spend your money with another cruise line, unless you have to go out of New Orleans for financial reasons. As I stated earlier, it was not a "bad" experience, just not up to the standards of other cruise lines we have sailed with.
