I am not as experienced a cruiser as some of your reviewers, myself and family having only gone on 2 Carnival cruises.
What did I like? Almost
everything about the ship and the professional and courteous staff.
We stayed on the 8th deck had a balcony, and I highly recommend paying extra for the luxury of the balcony.
The food was excellent. We enjoyed the NY deli, the Lido buffets and the 24 hour pizza. Our dining was in the Paris Room, but we did not attend many seatings as we were disappointed to be sitting with our guests. We would have preferred our own table, as we had on our first cruise.
The day trips were good. We really enjoyed the butterfly farm in St. Martins and the Coral World in St. Thomas. We felt that St. Thomas was definitely an island we would like to return to. San Juan, was dirty, crowded, a disappointment. I would recommend it not be included in this type of cruise experience. Another positive feature on the ship is its excellent athletic facility. Great gym!
What didn't I like? San Juan, as I have already mentioned and the gratuities which were automatically added to our bill. I found this to be insulting, as well as over priced. We were being charged $70 a day per person in our room. We are a family of 3 - this added $210 per day X 7 days = $1407 almost the cost of the cruise itself. We asked for these to be removed. All but one day's was taken off our bill which was not what we had asked for.
Another point was the dirty windows in the Lido room. Was disappointing to sit in a dining room and look over the seas, with dirt on the windows.
Smoking was also a negative for us. We found that the smell of cigarettes and cigars from the bars, lounges and casino to be overpowering at times. It would be nice to have a smoke free environment especially when this type of cruise attracts so many families with small children.
