It was our first cruise. It exceeded our expectations. There were some surprises. Based on reviews we read before cruise, we did not expect the food to be that excellent. On the other hand, our expectations for the kid's club were not met. Our 9-year old spent there one evening and decided not to go anymore: he could play computer games at home. Overall, it was a great experience. The room was very adequate. The food was great. The shows with dancers were top quality. There always was some music on deck 5 and/or 4: piano, duo, guitar, jazz, etc. We enjoyed it. We liked the itinerary very much. Every day we saw a new island. We did a lot of excursions (mostly, on our own, not through the ship). It was great advantage that the cruise started in Puerto Rico. We took a day after cruise to visit rain forest and walk in Old San Juan.
The dining room food was excellent. The buffet on the deck 9th was O.K. We did not use it much.
The room was big enough for three of us but we spent a minimum time there. It was always cleaned twice a day.
The big shows with singers and dancers were great (A+). Not too many of them though. The other shows were C+. We mostly listened to a good music. There were plenty of opportunities to dance. Overall, there could be more fun activities.
We booked only one excursion on the ship in Dominica. It was good but highly overpriced. All others we booked through locals. The best was on St. Lucia.
Cruise eve. We arrived in San Juan. Took a night walk in Old San Juan. It's a charming city. Day One: came to our ship early (around noon). Check-in took us about 20 minutes. We could not get into our room yet but we can use the buffet, etc. Our goal was to get rid of luggage and get back to Old San Juan. We visited El Morro (the fortress). Absolutely worth seeing. Day Two. We arrived on St. Thomas. Amazing beach - Magens Bay. The taxi: $8 p/p each way. Day Three. Dominica. Wilderness. Great for outdoor adventures. We took a tubing down the river and hiking to Twin Falls. Advice: take wet shoes. The river has sharp stones and you need good shoes to walk to the falls. Beautiful island but everything is far from port, so be careful when taking a taxi. We booked through the ship to make sure we are not late for departure. Being in a car in Dominica is almost the same thrill as being on a roller coaster. Day Four. Barbados. We took a taxi. The driver spent several hours with us showing the island from all points. At the end we went to beach which was good. The island is beautiful but I wish we spent more time on the beach. Cost: $80 for all. Day Five. St. Lucia. Amazing island. We will go back there for sure. We took Water and Land excursion. It included a boat ride (40 minutes) along the coast (my son was thrilled) and then land part to volcano and beautiful small botanic garden on top where you can swim in waterfall. Don't take the land route only! It will take 1.5 hours on a very bumpy, winding road. It's much better to take a boat. We spent also 1.5 hours on the beach which was gorgeous (Anse Chastanet). $55.00 p/p. Day Six. Antigua . Visited Runaway Beach. Very secluded, great facilities, very romantic. You will need wet shoes though because there are stones the first couple of steps when you enter the water. Make sure to ask taxi driver to pick you up. $4 each way p/p. Day Seven. St.Kitts. Took taxi excursion. For $20 per person, visited fortress and beautiful botanical garden, then headed to the beach and back to the ship. Day Eight. Arrived in Sun Juan. Very well organized debarkation. By 10:30 we were out. Our flight was the next day. We rented a car and visited El Yunque National forest. Advise: there is a guided tour three times a day for very nominal price. The last one is at 2:30. Take it. Cynthia is an amazing guide. This is a real rain forest. Very beautiful.
