Number of Cruises: 4
Cruise Line: Carnival
Ship: Carnival Victory
Sailing Date: June 11th, 2001
Itinerary: NY to Canada
Day One: We were surprised how big this ship is inside. The Atrium Lounge is beautiful with the green colors and the glass elevators. This is a great spot to have a glass of wine before dinner and listen to the pianist. Once on ship we found our cabin w/no problems. We had an inside stateroom in the aft of the ship on deck #6. Cabin was roomy and the bathroom was good size. This was definitely the largest stateroom we've had on any cruise. We headed up to the lido deck and had lunch in the Mediterranean Restaurant. Food was great. The ship left the pier @ 5:00 pm.
Day Two: At Sea.... The weather was overcast and cool. We basically explored the ship all day and lost money in the casino. Casino is a good size and is easily located off Neptune’s Way which is the main walkway where all of the bars and shops are located. We met a bar waiter, Donnie (from Indonesia), who works in Neptune way serving drinks. He was very friendly and always took care of us. He remembered our names and went out of his way to make sure we were having a good time and making sure our needs were met.
Day Three: St. John - Canada - Weather was very foggy and cool - high around 50. We took the St. John Highlights tour and enjoyed it very much. We were back at the ship by noon and decided to walk around St. John. We ended up in a cozy pub drinking Moosehead Ale for the afternoon.
Day Four: Halifax - Canada. Weather was sunny, warm high around 75. We explored Halifax on our own and had a great time. We saw the Citadel which was very interesting, we also visited the Maritime Museum with exhibits and artifacts from the Titanic. We had lunch at the Sheraton Hotel outside on a deck overlooking the water. We then did some shopping and then went to Alexander Keith's Brewery and did a tour. This was a lot of fun and we highly recommend doing a tour of the brewery. We got back on the ship at 5pm.
Day Five: At Sea - Weather was foggy and cool. We relaxed all day and saw some of the shows that were going on.
Dining: Dining Room food was good considering they had over 3,000 passengers to feed in a timely manner. Our waitress, Andrea was excellent! Mediterranean Restaurant had excellent food. This is a buffet but the choices were great and the desserts weren't bad too. The 24hr pizzeria had excellent pizza - the best we've ever had at Sea.
Entertainment: Shows were great. Livin In America was a good show. Corey Schmidt - Cruise Director was Wonderful and very, very funny. He was always smiling!
Disembarking: Carnival has a new option for passengers in NY - you can carry your luggage off the ship if you want and don't have to wait for them to sort the luggage and then try and find it in the terminal. We were off the ship by 8:45 and in the car on the way home by 9 am.
Overall we had a great cruising experience with Carnival and would cruise with them again!
