We booked the 5-day Carnival Cruise out of Galveston, Tx. We had used Carnival before to the Bahamas and enjoyed it greatly. My sister had taken a cruise to Alaska on a more formal line, so I was worried about what she would think of Carnival, but the whole cruise was fantastic. We boarded on a Saturday and arrived fairly early and waited in a short line to board the boat. We had 2 rooms on the Upper deck with outside rooms. The windows were a nice size and there was plenty of room in the cabin. Showers were a bit small, but livable for 5 days!

We had the late seating and got a small table for just the 4 of us. It was great. Our waiter, Dante, could not have been more helpful and enjoyable. If we even said "I wonder what this would taste like..." It was on our table. Our husbands ate two entrees on several nights. If we wanted help selecting a wine, Dante was very knowledgeable. The only thing that we were not very impressed with, was the lobster. I'm not a big seafood person to begin with, but it just was not very flavorful. The waiters entertain everyone every night also and my sister and I were always dragged out with Dante to dance around the dining room. It was a very fun way to end a nice dinner! We ate every meal except when we were on shore in the main dining room. Occasionally there was open seating for breakfast and we were seated with other guests and while some were thoroughly enjoyable, some were constant whiners, complaining about the simplest thing and I wondered why they ever went on a cruise!

We went on two shore excursions. The first was snorkeling in Cozumel. I can't remember the exact name of the tour, but it was to the ecological park. We went by boat and it said "unlimited" snorkeling, but there was a set time. It was however plenty of time to view the beautiful coral and fish. I have never seen water this blue. They have a camera guy who leads a school of zebra fish to swim around you and then take your picture. You can purchase the picture at the end of the tour. The tour was $32 and worth every penny. The photos were $10 and came with a matte and really a great momento for your cruise. We then had plenty of time when we got back to go shopping in Cozumel. They have shops they encourage you to use and these shops really did have fair pricing. The restaurants had filtered water, so you could eat and drink without worrying about stomach viruses later! My sister and I got our hair braided and this was a bit expensive in Cozumel, but you could have gotten in cheaper had we waited till Calica. However, I highly recommend it for anyone with long hair. It was very hot and humid and this kept us both a lot cooler!

The other tour we took was in Calica. We went on the Tulum/Xel-ha tour. It was $70, but again, worth every penny. The only cheesy part was on the way to Tulum they take a rest stop, which is basically a way for local people to sell cheap products at high prices. It was no deal and kinda made everyone on the bus mad that we had to spend a 1/2 hour there. We got to Tulum and it was incredible. I have never seen ruins so beautiful. It is right on the ocean and I can't even explain how incredible it was. We spent 2 hours there and I could have spent a lot longer walking around. We then headed to Xel-ha, which is a water park. Not a water park like in the US though. It is an ecological park that is preserving the environment as well as providing recreation. We went tubing down the river into the inlet and the environment was just beautiful. We did not even have time to eat there, as we wanted to spend all the time using the various water adventures. You could even swim with the dolphins for an additional charge.

Activities on the boat were very entertaining too. We took part in all the bingo, horse racing and line dancing. My sister's husband spent a lot of time in the Casino. We also bought some of the artwork displayed on auction. Drinks were pricey, but good. They were not watered down and a very large variety were available.

I would highly recommend this cruise to anyone.
