Hurricane Ivan made this cruise one to remember. The time aboard ship was great, except for the 16 hours of 15 – 20 ft seas we had to endure, which sickened most of the people aboard. Oh, well, it was something that I’ll remember, for sure and it was an experience. The food was great the stewards were fantastic, great cabin, gambling, etc. This cruise did not make any of its scheduled stops due to Ivan. Instead of canceling the cruise the first day, Carnival opted for greed over customer satisfaction and re-routed us to a dump like Progreso and the industrial port of Vera Cruz. Neither of these “alternatives” is in any way a legitimate substitute for Cozumel or Calica, our original destinations. Oh, and did I mention 15 – 20 ft seas on the way back? There were plenty of open seats in the casino that day and no waiting line for supper that night! By the way, Seabands and OTC meds can handle 15 – 20 ft seas, barely, but drinking becomes a non-starter. Consider this seriously and come prepared. When they have to place barf bags out all over the ship, even on the poker tables, stairways, elevators, etc., you know you’re in for a rough time. Even 4 – 6 ft seas can move one of these ships around, despite the stabilizer fins. I asked for a simple explanation as to why the trip wasn’t cancelled after it became apparent that Ivan was going to be a problem. And to explain how they can justify using an industrial shipping port as a legitimate “alternative” to a vacation destination. Oh well, next time I’ll believe them when they say almost no cruises are cancelled or refunded, regardless of the situation. So be informed. We still had a lot of fun and plan to go again. After all, what are the odds
