I returned from taking my 2nd Carnival cruise yesterday. My first Carnival cruise with some girlfriends was not a happy experience, but I was willing to give Carnival one more try. Needless to say, I was left quite unhappy and will NOT cruise with Carnival again. The food was mediocre at best. On the last night, dinner in the Dining Room was downright BAD. The buffet food left much to be desired---overcooked, dried out, and bland. Breakfast was fairly acceptable if you don't mind low-grade breakfast meat. The fruit offered both at dinner and on the buffet was over-ripe and mushy---kind of a gross mouthful when you are eating mushy cantelope and honeydew. Room service was acceptable, but only because there was no extra charge. Lots of hype regarding the sushi bar and the chocolate explosion buffet, but both were unexciting and left a lot to be desired. We decided to splurge and go for the Penthouse suite. What a total waste of money!! First, the room was quite smaller than it appears on the computer virtual tour. You do NOT get the robes complimentary when you book a suite. Our complimentary bar set-up was 2 cokes and 2 sprites---big whoopie!! The balcony isn't wide enough to even stretch your legs out on. The T.V. had many missing channels due to "no signal." All excursions booked by Carvival cost much much more than if you make your purchase at a tour office off the ship. Don't pay double when you don't have to!! We were very disappointed with the food, the onboard activities, and most certainly the room. I had cruised Carnival once in the past and was willing to give it one more try---mostly because my cruise agent assured us that since we were booking a penthouse suite that we would really enjoy it much more. WRONG WRONG WRONG. The ship's decor is better than it was in the past, but nothing to catch your breath over. Our room steward was a treasure!!!! But unfortunately, as the week wore on, service from other staff members on the ship steadily went downhill. I can truly say, it's better to save your money and go with another cruise line; such as Princess or Holand America!
