Itinerary: Western Caribbean
I booked the cruise thru Carnival. They flew my 16 year old daughter and I down
to Miami the day before and put us up at the Miami Airport Hilton. Imagine our
surprise when handed a flyer to read as we approached the carnival offices to
board. Due to mechanical problems on the previous cruise, we would not be
sailing to Grand Caymans and Jamaica but to Cozumel instead. I can appreciate
the fact that mechanical problems happen, but wouldn't you thing they could find
me at the hotel they were paying for to let us know the change of itinerary.
Carnivals business philosophy is fill every bunk, every cruise. So rather than
let us know ahead of time, they let us check our baggage and told us when it was
too late to do anything else. For the inconvenience, they gave us a $100.00
shipboard credit and 25% off our next cruise taken before December 2006. When
the Cozumel trip would have been cheaper to start with, they were really only
giving us our own money back! There were 3 couples that were going to get
married in Jamaica. One of them already had family/friends waiting for them. They
didn't even know if they could get their money back from the arrangements in
Jamaica. You can bet that had they known earlier, they would have made other
plans. I won't even go into the excursions that we had planned that didn't
happen. I have sent several emails to the company and the travel rep has passes
them up to higher management, but I have yet to get a response. So much for
their "Vacation Guarantee". Many people who charged their trip on their platinum
credit card were going to try and deny the charges. You can bet I wish I had.
