I went on my first cruise this
past March, and it is now the middle of May - I believe I finally have
recovered, but life is not the same. Indeed, the experience was an eye opening,
life altering event. I went with 8 of my best friends and, even though we were
only together for 1 picture for the entire 5 day journey, we believed we had a
fun time. None of us really remembered more than 25% of the actual events, but
judging from the number of people who recognized us and gave us funny looks or
wanted to party with us, I guess we were cohesive enough to be somewhat
entertaining. The fact that one of my friends, who shall remain nameless because
is a member of the armed forces, was put in a wheelchair twice in one day (once
in broad daylight by the pool, then again that night in the club) well that may
have been the single greatest moment of my life.
It was definitely a spring break cruise, and if your looking for a good time and
that is your cup of tea then look no further than a cruise during any time in
March. I only wish we had more memories than the 2 days of pictures and 30
minutes of random video footage we got while we were able to operate machinery.
Grand Cayman was a blast, we were a little worried because we woke up at 7 am on
45 minutes of sleep to take the first boat to the island and when we got the
beach bar at around 8 there weren't too many people there (we believed this was
odd and that it meant for a boring day with just the 8 of us - we hadn't
realized that most people don't find it necessary to start drinking before 830
am - who knew!). At any rate, after a couple hours and many rounds of drinks and
about 4 packs of cigarettes, people started pouring in. What ensued was a party
straight out of a movie. Young people everywhere, girls gone wild, old men and
women gone wild, all the while enjoying the natural beauty of the island and the
94 degree weather. Makes you wonder why we ever got back on the boat??
Apparently we all made it back on the boat and proceeded to spend the next 8 hours in the hot tub and drank enough jack Daniels to kill a large animal. It was all down hill from there, for the rest of the week, we couldn't form coherent sentences and were left thinking all we wanted to do was get off the boat. This wasn't vacation, it was punishment. We still ripped it up the last few days, but we were never the same. We had plenty of fun, but next year we may decide to take it a little easier during the day. All in all, a great vacation, and has since made 4 of us decide to move to Florida in the near future. If your looking for a life altering experience, I recommend this trip...just be prepared for the ultimate reality slap when you get home and realize it is over. Sometimes, I wish I never went on that boat and never had that much fun and never knew how many interesting people there are in the world because I don't think anything can ever top those 5 days - until next year anyways. I have many more stories that are slowly coming back into memory even 2 months after, so hopefully I can add something in the future..
