We have enjoyed all of our cruises and this was no exception. This was our first with Celebrity and we found some advantages and some disadvantages between this line and others we have been on.
Celebrity has a very good reputation when it comes to food. Some reviews have said that the food is not as good as it once was but, being our first cruise with Celebrity, we found it was at least as good as Princess or Holland America.I liked the fact you could get lemonade or milk with dinner at no extra charge which some other lines won't do. The portions were average size and I often ordered two main courses which the waiter was happy to bring. Every other review I have read says you should not miss going to Oceanliners specialty restaurant but we were not too impressed ( we both ordered medium-well and one came pink and the other was well done). There were other small things also. I would suggest you go there if you want to get away from your regular dinner companions.
The stateroom seemed smaller than both Holland America and Princess. We like the stateroom design on Princess the best. Also, on other cruises the attendant made towel animals which we always found fun but that was not done with Celebrity.
There seemed to be lots to do for activities so we don't really have any real complaints here. We played volleyball with some of the entertainers which was fun. We also played shuffleboard, table tennis, putting, basketball and paddle-tennis. On the downside I heard they used to give shirts for prizes (for activities winners) but now they gave cheap pens or useless luggage tags. Often the activities person had to leave after 15 minutes and left us to sort things out for ourselves. This is also the first cruise we have been on where they didn't introduce the activities people at the first evening show.
One excursion we went on which we would recommend is Harrisons Cave in Barbados.
There were two big negatives for us on this cruise. 1. Princess has anytime dining which is so popular that Holland America switched over to it this year. Holland America calls it personal choice dining. That is where one level of the main dining room has the traditional 6pm and 8:30pm dining and the other level has the anytime dining. This is good if you meet people you want to dine with or you just want a table for two or you simply want to eat at a different time. This system makes everyone happy. We requested first seating (6pm) on this cruise two months ahead and couldn't get it so we ate late although at home we normally eat at 5:30. 2. The overall entertainment was by far the worst of all the cruises we have been on. There were no magic performers or acrobats, just music and singing with only two shows by the dancers ( One major show was cancelled due to technical difficulties). Jack Walker, a singer, was very good but he did two shows when one should have been enough. Overall, of course, we had a great time as cruising has become our favourite holiday.
