It's hard not to have a good time on a cruise, and we did have a wonderfull time. However, there were six of us and we all agreed that our overall cruise experience was lacking in most catagories that were determined by the cruiseline. Four of our group had cruised Celebrity twice before and loved their previous experiences. I am not sure if they would ever do Celebrity again after this experience. They told us everyday that their other experiences had been nothing like this. We were not complaining or fishing for comments either. We are all very good friends for 30 years and we can have a good time doing anything.

Food was not memorable, even bad at times. One night, the entire menu tasted awful, especially the stuffed flounder. Even the waiter called it a disaster! The desserts were really not good. The meals were presented well, though. The temperature in the dining room was terribly hot. It was our first Alaska cruise but we have never experienced anything like this. We asked the maitr'd if he could help with the room temp and it seemed to get better for a bit but the next night it was back to hot. Not just warm, but to the point where even the women would step outside to get some cool air in the middle of dinner. The waiters were all sweating. The Theater for shows was always warm as well. Dancing is something we enjoy doing but you had to go outside after every other dance to get cooled off.

Stateroom was good. The shower was very much in need of an update. The drapes needed about 4 more inches of fabric so that we could darken the room, as Alaska has a lot of daylight hours. The steward was wonderful.

Onboard activities were okay. Our group won a Wii bowling championship, but there was no token prize, as on most ships we have cruised on. The nature lectures by Brent Nixon were fantastic! He was their saving grace. Not one activity seemed to go well. Either the Wii didn't work at first and a technician had to be called in or the putt putt was just artificial grass rolled out. We saw pictures of our daughter's cruise (she was on Carnival at almost the same time) and they had real putt putt set up.

We mostly took care of our own excursions and saved some money by doing so. The Mendenhall Glacier excursion we booked through the ship went well. All of our excursions were quality. In Ketchikan we wanted to do a float plane trip and we went online and found Southeast Aviation and booked directly with them and saved about $60 per person. They were very nice, very competent, but Misty Fjords planes were much newer looking and their operation looked a little more upscale. SE was very nice though. Ernie was our pilot and he was extremely capable. Not the warm and fuzzy type but you felt any nerves melt away when he took control. Be sure to go in the Red Dog Saloon if you get to Juneau. The piano player is a hoot. It was our favorite bar by far.

This was our seventh cruise and our 5th cruise line. We have seen waves as high as the ones on this cruise but never so much rolling and swaying on the ship. Even when seas were calm the ship seemed to lean to one side. The waiters even mentioned they had never seen such swaying. One waitress told us the captain was new on our cruise, meaning he replaced the other captain she was used to and thought that might be the cause. Two of our friends were sick from all the movement. The entertainment in the bars were alright but not stellar. The contests such as Wii and Name that Tune never had a prize given. All of our other cruises at least gave gaudy medals that couldn't have cost more than $1.50 or so but at least you had a momento to put in the family scrap book. I want to do Alaska again in a few years but it won't be on Celebrity. All six of us said early in the cruise that we would go to all of the shows at dinnertime. We all did that on every cruise. By the second show not one of us could be talked into going to another show. We did an illusionist that was a one night show but even he was second rate. The destinations were all good. Not a problem once we disembarked.
