Millennium Cruise Review
Eastern Caribbean

This was my second cruise and I enjoyed it a great
deal. The stateroom with veranda was lovely though compact, and it was well
worth it to have a "concierge class" cabin. The service was superb -- room was
tidied up 3 times a day, staff was kind and unobtrusive -- canapes and fresh
fruit were served in the afternoon, chocolates on the pillow each night.
Highlights were: dinner at the Olympic restaurant -- never had better service
anywhere and the restaurant is lovely. It was well worth the surcharge. Food
very, very good too! There were many dining places from which to choose for the
daily meals. One of my favorites was the Ocean Spa restaurant on deck 10 near
the pool -- refreshingly healthy and delicious choices in a casual setting. Main
dining room service was just great for dinner, but mediocre for breakfast. We
often preferred breakfast in the quieter and even tastier deck 10 facilities.
The celebrity theater was sometimes great and other times not due to poor sound regulation -- too much amplification of music one night. Much too loud. However, dancers were great, aerial and juggling acts were lots of fun and theater was very, very comfortable. Drinks are served everywhere! Watch out for ever-rising bar bills! Any entertainment hosted by Simon, the cruise activities director, was terrific. The other activities such as trivia games, etc. that were run by other staff members were just not as fun as those run by Simon, who is a gifted host and emcee. Dislikes: too much emphasis on shopping and buying and too many attempts to sell products (i.e. at the spa where all treatments are expensive to begin with and products are quite pricey.) I did have a lovely massage and a very mediocre manicure. I guess the quality of those services vary. I'm glad I came with a new pedicure from home!
Photographers abound and do a nice job taking photos before and during some dinners. Photos can be purchased -- again a little pricey, but worth it, I thought. Pools on deck 10 were lovely but the main pool gets very crowded and music gets loud there -- I preferred the smaller pools.
Another complaint -- too many areas of the ship were open to smokers resulting in some areas smelling like cigarettes (yuck) especially the game room and the lounges which were otherwise lovely places and comfortable places to be. There's also a lot of "hype" on the ship (i.e. "Is everybody having fun????" asked about a million times). Little irritations aside, it's a beautiful, spacious, well-run ship with excellent staff who are available and eager to serve. Dining staff was amazingly attentive to our needs.
