This was our honeymoon and it couldn't have been more spectacular. We really didn't encounter any problems at embarkation, maybe an hour wait at most. The most frustrating thing about this trip was the airlines' (America West) delay of getting our luggage to us. It didn't arrive when we got to Vancouver, our initial port, so we were pretty mad. It finally came on the third day we were on the ship, into Ketchikan. I pictured a little guy rowing it out to us by canoe. The concierge was marvelous about handling this. We had originally booked a Concierge Class and had stateroom 9038 assigned. When we asked about upgrades, we were pleasantly surprised to learn that a Royal Suite was available and it didn't cost that much to upgrade, so we did it, and it was the best decision we made. We had a personal butler, who every morning, would bring breakfast to us and set it up in our dining area. We took advantage of this and never went to the dining room except for dinner! The cabin steward was quiet, efficient, and we never saw him, but we'd always return to a clean and tidy suite after a day's excursion. In the Royal Suite we had 2 plasma screen TV's, an internet station, dining area, sitting area, huge verandah with hot tub, table and chairs, and 2 chaise lounges. And the bathroom was magnificent. Dual sinks, a jetted tub and separate shower. Add to this a walk in closet, in room safe and you have quite a luxury indulgence. We couldn't have been happier with our accommodations, and it certainly helped ease the pain of not getting our luggage on time. They also cleaned our clothes for us at no charge since we experienced such a long delay. After going on shore excursions, we would come back to find hot chocolate waiting for us, a very nice touch. On the day we sailed by Hubbard Glacier, we sat in our hot tub with hot chocolate and gazed out at the beauty in front of us. Magnificent! We only did a couple of shore excursions, the Whale watching cruise and tour of Mendenhall Glacier, and a city tour of Sitka.I especially enjoyed Sitka. It's a very unusual place with its Russian history and background. We toured the Raptor Center and met Volta the bald eagle who lives there. That was absolutely fantastic. Did all of our souvenir shopping in Ketchikan. Our servers, waiters and maitre'd were all wonderful. It was a great trip. Not to mention the the great deal I got on www.SmartCruiser.com. I got free trip insurance with my purchase. They were also had deals that included onboard credits to use on the trip in other trip deals.
