A female friend had urged me to come on a cruise with her and wanted an upscale cruise. I had suggested that we go either Royal Caribbean or Carnival as I had had 4 wonderful experiences with these companies. She told me that Celebrity was a step up from Royal Caribbean so I agreed that Celebrity it would be. The cruise was by far the worst one I had ever been on by a long shot. I could not believe that this is what they called "a step up from Royal Caribbean!

The food was below average. Many nights the food came at room temperature or cold. The menu only had salmon as a fish option. I don't eat meat. All other cruises I'd been on had at least 2 fish options at the least. There were little if no vegetables on the plate with the dinner menu. The buffet had huge line ups and was bland and mainly served "carbs". I could not believe that the fruit (which is what I eat as a dessert) was cut up into bite size pieces served in bowls for maybe 10 people at a time. Many times I got to the fruit plates with no fruit or just morsels of fruit left.

The stateroom was in dire need of an overhaul. The comforter was old, the 2 seater couch was so soiled that I would not even put our luggage on it, let alone use it to sit on. We had upgraded to a balcony at my suggestion because I love a balcony (this was my friend's first cruise). The balcony was full of rust, the table and chairs were dirty. We barely used the balcony. The bathroom was dirty when we arrived and had mold on the grout and broken tiles in the bathroom. When I called the main desk to have the bathroom cleaned, I was told that they'd be up right away and after 1/2 an hour, we left the cabin. When we came up the bathroom floor had been cleaned. The shower had "no shower gel nor shampoo". I was told that cruise ships don't do this anymore. My husband was so upset by my experience that he booked us a cruise as a surprise to me 9 days after I got back from my Celebrity cruise. He had chosen Carnival and I was hesitant because of the recent experience on Celebrity. Our recent Carnival cruise was awesome, adventurous and entertaining and had shower gel and shampoo in the shower stall by the way. The rooms on the Celebrity Summit were in the worst conditions of any room I had ever had on cruises that were said to be of a "lower caliber". Shame on you Celebrity!

We did not use the ship for more than relaxation and rest. There was a gym on the ship (although we did not visit it). There was a relaxation area with an indoor pool on the ship which seemed very nice that my friend used, but I preferred to be outside in the sun.

The 4 hour island tour we took with Celebrity was a joke. Our bus broke down 3 times and the 4 hour tour ended up being 6 1/2 hours as a result. What a disaster. When I went to complain about this at the customer service, they asked me to put everything in writing and they'd send it off to the Miami office and I'd hear back from them in a couple of months. I chose not to waste my time with that or Celebrity in the future.

We began our trip in New York (I love N.Y. as much as New Yorkers). We enjoyed the hop on hop off bus tour and our excellent meals known to be awesome in N.Y. We left on Sunday July 17/11 at 10 a.m. for Bayonne N.J. and boarded the Celebrity around noon. I was so happy that we did not have the drill at our "muster stations" as we had on our past cruises, but instead met the passengers in the theatre.

Bermuda was disappointing from what we were able to see on our 6 1/2 hour bus tour (which was suppose to be 4 hours only). We should have gone into Hamilton because that appeared to be very nice. We were instead brought into the downtown of King's Wharf which had a few very expensive shops and apart from that had nothing else of interest. The "Clock Tower Mall" at the port which was walking distance from the ship was very nice and had interesting shops with reasonably priced items. The beaches in Bermuda are beautiful with white sand and aqua coloured oceans. This is definetly an island for those who love the beach and who don't mind a "do nothing" vacation.
