CostaAtlantica Cruise Review

Cruise Line: Costa Crociere
Ship: CostaAtlantica
Sailing Date: April 7th, 2002
Itinerary: Eastern Caribbean

The CostaAtlantica was by far the most beautiful ship I have ever sailed on. She reminded me of the Carnival Destiny with the wood and brass combination.

The first thing that stood out to me was the friendliness of the staff and crew. Most ships now have a "speak when spoken to" policy because of negative publicity. This ship was not like that. We saw the cruise director, his staff, food and beverage manager and other officers in the bars every night socializing. It was great.

The food was disappointing. I expected fabulous Italian creations nightly and it just wasn't to be.

The food was edible, don't get me wrong, we didn't go hungry. But we didn't look forward to dinner like we did on Carnival. Club Atlantica is the specialty restaurant ($23 per person added to your Costa Card) and was not worth it. It is a beautiful place with the crystal staircase, but definitely a 'been there, done that' option.

The ship has lots of nooks and crannies for reading and quite time. The casino looked large, but really wasn't. It got pretty crowded around 11pm.

One of my fondest memories was Italian night. This was more fun than I could have imagined. The waiters danced with almost every lady in the restaurant, then the cruise staff had games set up in the atrium, everything from Bocce Ball, ring toss and a "Guess the spice" contest. It was great. The Toga night was also special. It was fun to see everyone dressed up. There was even a baby dressed in a towel toga.

Our room was a partially obstructed balcony cabin. The lifeboat was below us, so you couldn't see down to the ocean (why would you?). It was perfect for leaving ports, we didn't have to fight the crowd on deck. Next time, I'll get port side so we're next to the islands coming in.

Feel free to email me with any questions. I love sharing.
