I enjoyed my Costa Atlantica cruise EXCEPT for the following:
1. My friend and I booked our room on the first floor. BIG mistake! We did not
get one night of sound sleep because our room must have a location near the
kitchen galley or boiler room. There was loud clanging during the middle of
every night like the sound of banging vats and pipes. We asked for another room,
but were told there were none available. No urgent attention was given to this
matter. In addition, our friend on the other side of the ship on the 1st floor
complained of hearing the noise associated with the casino in the middle of the
night.
Included with this huge sleeping inconvenience for someone wanting a restful
vacation, the first floor corridors smelled like a musty basement. I heard
several people comment on this as I walked to and from my noisy room location.
2) The food at the buffets on the 9th floor could be of higher quality.
Sometimes the items offered did not even look appetizing. Also, one midnight
buffet dish included chicken that looked like leftover wings and keels among
other gross looking chicken parts. I was not impressed!
I will say that the evening dining room offered good food and good service. I
tried to go down there for my breakfast as well.
I complained about these items on the questionnaire given at the end of the
cruise and will contact Costa cruise lines to complain further. I deserve some
sort of compensation for lack of ability to sleep soundly.
I enjoyed Atlantica's good, quality entertainment and activities and the beauty
of the ship. If it were not for the above items, I would rate the cruise as
generally a good experience. BUT BEWARE of booking on the first floor if you
want good nights of sleep!!
