Itinerary: Eastern Caribbean
My wife and I sailed aboard the Atlantica to the Eastern Caribbean this December
2004. While we found the ship itself to be very elegant and the bulk of the
staff very helpful, we were not as pleased as we should have been. To begin with
the positives; the dinning room staff and fare was superb! The quality,
quantity, and presentation were excellent! The ships décor and cleanliness was
also excellent. We found the shows and events to be fun and very enjoyable and
scheduled well to accommodate all passengers. However, now the negatives. We
found the ship to vibrate something awful while underway. It felt as if the ship
was not equipped with stabilization as it rocked and “shuddered” in even calm
waters. We have been on other ships and have not experienced this type of
vibration or movement before. While having lunch in the rear of the dinning room
directly above the propulsion system, it was difficult to get the food to your
mouth before the vibration shook it off your fork! This was funny yet very
irritating at the same time. The cabins were tasteful and well proportioned yet
they lacked the small touches of other ships such as mints or chocolates on the
pillows. The cabins were clean at all times but never made you feel special in
any way. The buffet was dismal at best. The food was plain, unimaginative, and
in short supply. There was little to no service and finding silverware was a
adventure. The ice machines amounted to Coleman ice chests and a scoop, and the
milk, juice, and ice tea machines rarely worked. And finally, smokers were
everywhere even in elevators! If you do not smoke, there is nowhere to get away
from it. Overall these little items really took a toll on our satisfaction with
the cruise. I do not see us sailing this line again as we have had much better
experiences on other lines and for less money as well. Too bad Costa, a little
attention to detail would have made this an excellent cruise!
