CostaMediterranea Cruise Review

CostaMediterranea

One of Costa's newer ships launched in mid-2003, CostaMediterranea is the sister ship to the CostaAtlantica. Her long sleek profile is stunning and over 70 per cent of the cabins are outside with a private balcony.

Excerpts from Costa's Website
about CostaMediterranea

She will be a sister ship of Costa Atlantica, the flagship of the Genoa based company, and will be ready for the summer 2003.

GENOA, August 21st 2000 - Costa Crociere today announced that it has contracted with Finland's Kvaerner Masa-Yards for the construction of a new 86,000-ton cruise ship expected to enter service in summer 2003. The total investment for the as-yet-unnamed vessel will be approximately 730 billions Lira ($350 million U.S. at current exchange rate) the approximate cost as that of its recently launched Costa Atlantica. The new Costa vessel, the eighth in the company's fleet, will host 2,154 passengers in lower berths and will be a sister to the Costa Atlantica, the flagship launched in July this year.“Since its debut, Costa Atlantica has been met with overwhelming response from guests, travel agents, and journalists who have praised the vessel as the most beautiful ever introduced to the European market” said Pier Luigi Foschi, Costa's Chairman & CEO. “Costa Crociere, building this sister ship – for which we expect a similar success, continues its growth following the tradition of cruising "Italian-style" that enabled the company to achieve the current market leadership position in Europe” Foschi added. Costa Crociere S.p.A., which is jointly owned by Airtours plc (LSE:AIR) and Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) is the Italian (79% m/s) and European (24% m/s) leading cruising group operating the most modern European fleet [7 cruise ships for a total of 350’000 tons and more than 9,200 passengers capacity].
