After we booked the Costa cruise I was very nervous due to all the negative reviews. My fiance and I are experienced travelers, but this was our first cruise. The result was very good!!! We did see how some would view certain aspects negatively. Costa is European--and that does not mean it is a floating Olive Garden. Some things were different.
The ship is incredible, immaculate, and luxurious: plenty to do, clean, roomy
Staff and service are wonderful. They did a great job!
Entertainment was very good (shows, music, toga!)
Lines for embarkment, food, etc… ---- GREAT! We got on and off the ship very smoothly!
Spa facilities were very good

Food:
Buffet, Good: 3 out of 5, Restaurant: great: 4 out of 5, Midnight buffet: 5 out of 5!
The buffet was okay, but not as good as I'd hoped. My fiancé had problems finding food she wanted, but she's picky. This is important: look at all the buffets before going through line.
After 3 days we found the American Teenager buffet. It always had hotdogs, hamburgers, veggie burgers, turkey burgers, chicken fingers, fish sticks, and French fries available. When we found this we liked the food a lot better.

The pizza parlor was always opened, but the pizza wasn't very good. I could only eat it 2-3 times before I got tired of it. But…..

Go to the sit-down restaurant. We liked it a lot. I do admit that sometimes it appeared we only liked one of the 3-5 entrees available, but when served we did. We always liked at least 2 different entrees available.

The super nice restaurant, Club Medusa, required an extra $20 a person. Considering how much we enjoyed the entire experience of dinner, I'm not sure it was worth it. It was great, but so was dinner.

Room service was great. We got breakfast most every morning--the only time you could get free cappuccinos and espressos. They were always 10 minutes early. We got room service at 3am one night. The sandwich came with mayo, which I hate. We called back and they said all their room service was pre-prepared. I asked for something else--a salad I think--and it was right up. Again, great service!

Desserts are awesome! Pastas were great--especially pesto and marinara pastas at midnight!
Okay, here are the negatives, but I don't think they are deal killers:

A lot of kids--which is annoying in the adult sections (even the disco).

The hot tubs are luke warm. Personally, I liked it a lot because we could stay in there a long time, but most people did not.

The pools are very small. They are more like fountains. Thus, kids filled them up all the time.
The Key West port was 8am until 1pm--not long enough. Cozymel was 8am until 7pm, Grand Caymen was 8am until 5pm. We were not able to port at Ocho Rios due to "wind," thus a lot of mad passengers. We did get free booze for an hour and 3 free bottles of wine, so yours truly was fine :-)

Sodas cost $2 each--no free cokes with lunch! Tea, Coffee and watered-down juices are pretty much always available.

All in all, I would go Costa again. From what I heard from other passengers, it is pretty luxurious for the price. I think we will explore HA or something, but we would do Costa again.

Good luck and enjoy your cruise!!!!!!
