Costa Mediterranea Cruise Review
Eastern Caribbean

Steven Melosky

Well you may have noticed that people are all over the place with this Cruise Line. I tend to believe that the very positive once are manufactured. I have sailed twice with Carnival and found that the Costa experience was sub-par compared to Carnival. So , If you think Carnival is sub-par then Costa would be sub-sub-par for you. Are you following?

I did think the ship was very beautiful and interesting in the majority of the public areas though I found the cabin rather plain. Cabin Steward service was acceptable though not inspired. The food ranged from blah to acceptable but never any better. On many evenings in the dining room I didn't order several courses of the meal because I couldn't find anything I liked. I also didn't care for the european style of dining service which serves different courses at the same time to people at the same table. The majority of the food on the breakfast buffet was cold. I personally do not care for cold eggs and cold pancakes but did find a area where they prepared hot eggs and omelettes and tried to keep it as my personal secret.

The lunch buffet was better but still a bit limited in selection. I really enjoyed the deli on the Carnival ship and didn't find one on Costa. The pizza was very good though on Costa. I found the entertainment to be amateur but somewhat charming.

Most of the shows were performed by the Costa employees rather than professionals and though It wasn't "Vegas" quality, it was obvious that they put great effort into it. The entertainment at the piano bar was horrible to say the least. Think 1st week American Idol quality.

I did find the ship to be very clean and didn't find the smokers to be a problem at all. For whatever reason I DID find many of my fellow cruisers to be inconsiderate and on the rude side. It was also a bit tiring reading and hearing everything in 6 different languages.

Overall not a terrible experience but I personally would not repeat. If this is the best you can afford on your budget then go for it as 90% of your experience is your attitude going in. I received very high recommendations for the Princess Caribbean ship and will try that one next. I hope this review is helpful to anyone making a Cruise line decision.
