Sailing on the Costa Mediterranea was a wonderful
experience. My previous cruise experience was through another cruise line on an
older ship that is now out of commission. So, walking onto the ship I was
immediately amazed by the bright, shiny, new, and immaculate décor. The granite
floors, mirror walls, Italian glass, and attention to detail were astounding.
Everything was easily accessible from any end of the ship.
My room was at the front of the ship with two twin beds that could be made into
a queen, a generous bathroom, and three larger closets. Unfortunately I did not
have a balcony room, but I still thought the room was very nice, remained
exceptionally clean, and had ample space. The only complaint I have about the
room was that the beds were slightly uncomfortable.
The staff was extremely accommodating. The dinner waiter was excellent and
attentive. There were multiple seating options at dinner (two, four, or eight
person tables). The food was always delicious with more than enough options to
please anyone; except for maybe the snobbiest eater. I did see one woman openly
and loudly complain about the food, only to see her go back to get seconds, then
thirds, and finally fourths! My take on that was that the food wasn’t nearly as
bad as her attitude.
Entertainment was fun. I did watch most of the evening shows which were always
good. The Casino was nice and wasn’t even very smoky. The daily itineraries were
packed with options for everyone. I was traveling with 4 adult friends and we
enjoyed going to the lido pool during the day because it was the adult only
pool. Two other pools were for adults and children, but even though there were
300 children on the ship, I never really felt overwhelmed by children, even in
areas designated specifically for children (e.g. the water slide).
I did participate in two shore excursions which were amazingly well organized
and a lot of fun! At the Cozumel stop, I went to Playa del Carmen for the
Dolphin Touch Experience, which was wonderful. In Jamaica, I went to Coyoba
Gardens and Dunn’s River Falls, which was also a great experience. I always felt
safe, secure, and entertained. One warning though…Dunn’s River Falls is somewhat
dangerous to climb. You can still see it, take pictures, and walk along the
beach if you want to experience it without having to climb it.
My overall impression of the Costa Mediterranea Western Carribean Cruise:
1. Excellent Ship
2. Great Service
3. Excellent Shore Excursions
4. Great Accomodations
5. Great Food
6. Best Cruise Buy for the Money
7. Great Cruise for all ages
I would do it again in a heartbeat!
