Itinerary: Western Carribean

This was our first cruise. We were on the Disney Magic 7 day Western Carribean. We are a family of 5 with three tweens. It was the best vacation we've taken. Everything about the Disney Magic exceeded our expectations. The kids club EDGE was a favorite of my oldest son's. He really enjoyed the independence he was able to experience on the ship. He really liked the counselors. The handheld phones provided to us were great for us to contact him when we needed to and give him the chance to go off and do whatever he wanted to. My husband and I were able to enjoy some time together in the adult area of the ship. There was really something for everyone of us.

We had the late seating for dinner which I was a little worried about with the kids, but it worked out perfectly. We were not rushed to get to dinner after our land excursions. We caught all the early shows and then had a nice relaxing dinner. There is so much food available all the time that the early dinner would have been too early for us. We thought the food was really good, and never ending. The midnight dessert buffet was amazing. Even if you are not hungry you should still go just to see it. My kids loved all the different things available to them and enjoyed being able to order off the adult menu if something looked good to them.

We had an oceanview family room with a balcony. It worked out perfectly for sleeping 5 people. The kids rotated beds every night because everyone wanted a chance to sleep on the top bunk. The turndown service and the towel animals were great to come back to after dinner and drinks. The split bathrooms are genious. With 5 of us in one room it made getting ready in the morning a much smoother process. We were also on Deck 8 Aft. It was very convenient because we were one deck away from the breakfast buffet and the soda station and we did not experience any severe rocking of the ship. Would request the same stateroom again.

There is something for everyone. The shows are not to be missed!!! Such amazing entertainment. My daughter had her hair braided (make that appointment early because they book up), my sons played basketball, they enjoyed seeing a couple of movies and hanging out at the Edge. The pirate on-deck party was fun for everyone. We played a little bingo and shuffleboard. My husband and I enjoyed the adult only area and saw some great comedy shows. We especially appreciated that we were able to see the NFL conference championship game on the funnel vision. GO PACKERS!!

We did the dolphin encounter on Grand Cayman. It exceeded our expectations. Worth every penny. We also went to Jimmy Buffet's Margaritiville there as well. Very fun and entertaining. Food was very good there. We did the Ruins and Beach Break at Cozumel. The Ruins were interesting and we enjoyed that. The bus ride was pretty long, but airconditioned and you got a feel for the whole island. The Beach Break was ok. I was glad we weren't there for too long. It was a little cool, so that probably didn't help, but the food was just ok and the beach isn't sand. It feels like it is all crushed up shells. Very rocky. Would not go there again. Disney's private island Castaway Cay is the best stop. Save your excursion money for this island and rent the jet skis. It is a 45 minute trip out into the ocean. A real highlight for my husband and son. They also rented Kayak's but it was pretty windy so that was more work than pleasure for them. The beaches are beautiful. The food was very good and plenty of it. My kids enjoyed the sports area. It was again a little cool out or we would have enjoyed the water and the waterfort more.

We will definitely take another cruise as soon as we can. We will probably go in Spring rather than January. Weather was a little windy and cool some days. Disney does everything right though from the transportation, to the dining, the cleanliness of the ship to the entertainment. It was truly an indulgent, relaxing vacation and we can't wait to go again.
