Nobody does it quite like Disney. Overall, this was a wonderful family cruise experience. We went on the 4 day cruise to Nassau and Castaway Cay with our 4 year old daughter. We are huge Disney fans, so taking this cruise at some point was a no-brainer. I wasn't quite sure what to expect since we've only been on one other cruise (Royal Carribbean) and we were going during the winter season, but the cruise definitely met most of our expectations. My daughter had the time of her life and my husband and I, if nothing else, could not trade the experience of seeing her have so much fun.

The food was actually the biggest disappointment for me. Disney really needs to improve on the quality. To be honest, the snack food options like the burgers and hot dogs were better to us than most of the dining room food. The restaurant meals were presented well and the staff was excellent, but the taste just left too much to be desired given what you pay and have come to expect from Disney. I can't even really describe it except to say that it never tasted particularly fresh or refreshing--just very preserved and unoriginal. Most of it looked like it should be good, but when you took a bite, it was just a let down. I know that mass production of food out in the middle of the ocean isn't easy, but that's where that "Disney Magic" should come in.

Now, all that said, it didn't ruin the trip or anything. The breakfast buffet at best was usually pretty decent, and it was all edible so, on the bright side, I didn't gain any weight.

I wasn't wowed by the stateroom either. The cabin is small as you might expect on a cruise. My complaints were really about the bathrooms. The split bath concept is great, but it was just way too small for even a family of just 3. Also, you have to step up to the bathrooms--on the first day I cut my toe really badly because of that step up. I have no idea why that's necessary and wish the ship would rethink that set up.

I also think the staterooms could be a little larger and the bedding and couches need to be updated. There isn't enough space for suitcases or storage either. I personally don't like to unpack my whole suitcase when I travel, so putting it in the closet doesn't work for me, much less all 3 of us.

Our stateroom attendant did a good job of morning cleaning and nightly turn-down. Overall, the room was okay--about what I expected although I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised.

The Magic of Disney is clearly present on the cruise. There were so many activities that we really needed on a vacation after the cruise. The shows were really special--different every night. Most of my daughter's favorite characters were there including the new Princess Tiana, so that was a real treat. My daughter was most interested in the character greetings and the pool, so we didn't send her to kid's club much at all. When she did go, she seemed to have a good time, though. They had special deck parties and all of the staff including the characters were great.

We were also pleasantly surprised by the movie premieres on the ship. The latest Disney movies are shown in the theaters and even some in your staterooms. There seemed to be plenty for the adults to do, but unfortunately, we didn't get to experience much of those offerings (by choice).

Castaway Cay was beautiful although we didn't do any of the excursions. Nassau was not of interest to us at all. We'd been before and were not going to pay money to sit on a beach at Atlantis. We got off of the ship for about an hour or so in Nassau and went to a few shops just so that my daughter could say she'd been to the Bahamas.

Overall, a great trip. You can't beat the Disney experience. We had perfect weather at each port and for the most part, smooth sailing. I would recommend the Disney Cruise to family and friends and I'm sure we'll go again.
