August 26, 2006 we started our week of fun
and adventure. Upon arrival in Seattle, we found that because we registered
on-line, that our processing time was cut in half. My 80 yr old mother, and 75
year old father were with me. Both had surgery last year and were unable to
stand for long periods of time. Holland America Oosterdam crew made the process
so easy, that we zoomed through the embarkation process in no time at all. The
crew aboard ship had prepared lunch and entertainment.
The ship personnel were helpful and friendly. Kim, the shopping guru, gave us
excellent deals on where and when to shop. Michelle, the Cruise director,
provided awesome activities and entertainment for all ages. There were 120 kids
on board, but we vary seldom saw them. We especially loved "DV8 Reality Magic"
with Drew and Angela in the Vista Lounge, and "The 5 Seasons Band" that played
in the Crow's Nest. You guys are Awesome.
Our waiters Yogi and Aryo at table #201 in the Vista Dining Room, sang "Happy
Anniversary" for my parents' 50th. On the 2nd night, they remembered my mother
liked coffee before and during dinner. They remembered the minor details and
made us feel special. The wait staff in the Lido Restaurant were also terrific.
They were always helping my parents by carrying their food tray to their table.
These guys were always smiling and laughing. It was amazing they could work so
hard, yet be so happy.
The housekeeping people did a great job. We were in room 1064 with a view. Our
cabin boy provided towel animals for our entertainment. He made the couch into a
bed at night, and back to a couch during the day. He was awesome.
A word to Captain Mercer, "Thanks for the awesome weather, and the smooth
sailing". In Hubbard Glacier we sailed through fog so thick you could not cut it
with a knife, but you guided us through to paradise we found daylight and an
excellent view of the Glaciers. Good job!!!!
The port's of call excursions were great except for one. Please do not take the
Craigdarroch Castle tour in Victoria. I think everyone on our bus was very
disappointed with this tour. The tour was displayed as a #1-low activity tour,
however, we had to walk two blocks to the Castle(in the dark), and you had to
climb five flights of stairs to view the different rooms. Needless to say my 80
yr old mother made it to the castle, but was not able view anything but the gift
shop. Don't waste your time.
