Cruise Line: Holland America

Ship: Oosterdam

Sailing Date: 11-24-2008

Itinerary: round trip from Seatle to Alaska

No provision for use of hairdryer or nightlight in bathroom. Lighting in makeup area in room inadequate. No clock provided. Lido dining was an epidemic waiting to happen, food offered by servers under sneeze guard in lido, self-service pies in lido had to be grasped to remove a slice, many guests grasped the pie tin, licked their fingers and proceeded to the next pie. Timing of the shows made it nearly impossible for 2nd seating guest to see the entire show. Prices for wines were very, very exorbinent even for vin ordinaire. Dining reservations were handled very poorly, even for we experienced mariners. Service in both cabin and dining room was very good, but our overall experience on this particular Holland America ship was very, very disappointing. Liked the culinary lectures. Cruise directors were mainly shills. Hubbard glacier and Sitka were interesting. Juneau was OK, but because of lack of time, Victoria was waste of time. Liked our previous experiences on other Holland America ships, but would not book the Oosterdam again.
