My wife and I went on this cruise with some friends that we always travel with, She is handicapped and uses a wheel chair. They booked a handicapped room and we booked a verandah room. We went through Holland America directly for the booking. They told us our rooms were close to each other but in reality we were down a hall and around a corner from each other.

The food aboard was good but I think we could have had better choices. We ate both in the dining room and on the lido deck. The worse thing about the lido deck was the lines people butting in front of people to get food, People kept butting in front of our friend in the wheel chair as they didn't see her. One time she had to remind someone that she was there. On the other hand the ship worker would push her around and get the food so both her and her husband could have meals together, Very helpful! Our dining staff was very good once we changed tables once again we had trouble with the wheelchair situation. They put us in a place where the wheelchair had difficulty getting into. Once we change tables we did not have a problem. Our server would come and push her to the table once he seen us come in. Some of the food was good and some of it was so so, We always had other choices other than the what was offered but we could have had more choices.

We have traveled on Holland America before on a Alaskan cruise so we knew what to expect aboard the ship, The ship was a older ship and some of the things need to be updated and or fixed. I had trouble with the shower drain , it would go up or down with the knob, so I pulled it out as we going to take a shower instead of taking baths. The shower curtain was worn and should be replaced. As far as the room goes a little updating would help but it was ok. On one day we were in port the ship left a message that they were going to do some painting on our deck and they may need to get into our room. We we came back from town they had painted the trim around our deck and left the place neat but could of cleaned up the deck a little better. Our room was always clean and we hardly ever saw our room steward. We would see him in the hallway cleaning someone else's room but not ours.

They could do better on some of the on board activities, I went to the computer classes they were giving and they did not have enough computers for all who attended, they could have also spaced them out a little better. The instructor was very good and was knew what he was talking about, he took lots of questions and took his time answering them. My wife and friend went to a couple of classes one for beading and making jewelery. Her class was supposed to start at 9:00 am but by the time she got there It was almost done. We went to a couple of trivia events which were fun we did not win any prizes but met some other interesting people. The show at night with the dancers was pretty good but the choice of material could be better, The second day of the cruise we had to make a detour stop in Cabo San Lucas as a dancer got injured during practice and they had to rush him to San Diego for emeregncy surgery. The ship kept us up with updates during the cruise about the dancer and he was doing well buy the end of the cruise.

We were very disappointed in the excursions we took in all the ports. We took just the cheapest one as all we want to do is see some of the cities and they go on our own the rest of the day. The one in Purteo Vallerata was ok as the guide was very knowlegable and showed us some sites and facts that we probably would have not seen if we did not go on the tour. In Mazaltain and in Cabo the tours were horrible a quick tour of the city and then to shopping areas. All they wanted you to do was to spend money in the shops where everything was overpriced to begin with.

Over all the trip was ok the weather was good compared to back home where it was 10 below the week before our trip. I would go back to San Diego to visit but not to take a cruise. The week went to fast as it seemed as all were doing aboard ship was eating and sleeping. But we had to get back to reality.
