Itinerary: Alaska

We truly enjoyed visiting the four ports in Alaska and Canada which included Juneau, Sitka, Ketchikan and Victoria. The ship was roomy and nicely decorated a la Vegas style. We especially loved the crow's nest where most of the whale sitings took place. Overall it was a nice experience thanks to our steward, the chefs and servers and the beauty of Alaska itself.

We were very impressed with the food both in taste and variety. The eggs benedict bar was one of our favorites and the chefs' specialties each night were a delight.

Our stateroom was comfortable and decorated with taste.

This is where I felt the cruise ship truly failed to impress most of its passengers including us.First of all, they did not even acknowledge Mother's Day which was a great disappointment to many of us to say the least. Even a simple announcement, perhaps a single rose on the bed would have been nice at a minimal expense to the cruise line. The activities were more appropriate for 90 year olds than those in the middle and very active years. The program director was seldom seen about the deck and robotic in her presentations each night.Having been a program director in Germany, I can honestly say this one truly lacked creativity, enthusiasm and charm. The shows were the cruse ship's saving grace, however, with their energetic and talented performers who, by the way, were seen about the ship during during the entire trip.

Alaska is definitely worth seeing. However, when a cruise ship cancels one of its most popular excursions, salmon fishing, because they were an hour late coming into port, I find that inexcusable! For some passengers, that might have been a lifelong dream and a mere payment back is not enough to compensate for such a disappointment. Also, the story about paying for excursions on the ship, so that you won't be left behind in an emergency, is not necessarily true according to the local guides who charge far less for the same experience.

All and all we enjoyed our first cruise experience but next time will definitely try another cruise line when we plan our next trip.
