This is not the first time we have sailed with Holland America, however, we felt that this was less than a stellar cruise. The weather was excellent, the ports of call were all interesting except for the Copper Canyon excursion which I will cover later. The service and staff was good, the food acceptable.

Holland America offers an excursion to the Copper Canyon which was our main reason for taking this cruise. The morning of departure my wife became ill with a gastro infection which was going through the ship. It became evident that she was not able to go, I promptly informed the ships travel office and all they were interested in was "we cannot reimburse you the cost of the ticket" - which I knew and at that stage I was not concerned about it. I took the excursion. Six hours of riding a bucking train, finally reached Copper Canyon where we were fed and treated to a local Indian show after the show we had 20 to 25 minutes to actually visit the Canyon. Obviously it was not enough time, then 6 hours return. The cost of this excursion was way way way over priced. Upon return to the ship, my wife had voluntarily quarantined herself which was in accordance with a letter we had received from the Ship's Master. I took the letter to the Medical office and requested a certificate or a letter from the medical staff to support a claim with my trip insurance. They refused my request and once again stated (several times) that they would not reimburse us. I acknowledged their concern but they still refused to help. We feel Holland America let us down and it will be a long time before we sail with them again. During the whole cruise, we felt that everything aboard the Ryndam was submersively high pressured and commercialized.

Copper Canyon, way way way over priced.
