First and foremost I want you all to know that this was one of the most
enjoyable vacations I have ever had. Having never been on a cruise before, I
carefully read all the reviews for the Regal Empress and was afraid that I had
made a mistake because some of the reviews were not only negative but very
discouraging. I was pleasantly surprised to find that none of the negatives that
I had read about were true.
>From the beginning to the end, everyone was very helpful and went out of their
way to make the cruising experience very enjoyable.
The Regal Empress is an older vessel however, what it lacks in size the staff
certainly makes up for with heart.
My husband and I sailed with our son and his wife along with two other couples.
Our staterooms were interior rooms and adjacent to each other so it was
convenient for us to easily meet and go to breakfast, dinner or midnight buffets
together. The staterooms were very clean and I loved the bed. I slept the best
that I have slept in years. Our room steward, Gata, was the best! He was very
professional yet personable and there almost instantly when several people were
using hairdryers at the same time and tripped the relay. That was the worst
thing that happened except for the first night out the water was a little rough
and the ship started listing just before dinner. I was told by one of the staff
that it would stabilize in an hour or so when we got closer to the islands, and
it did, but not before many on board became sea sick including my husband and
son. By the time the midnight buffet rolled around they were fine and enjoyed
the buffet along with many others that I had seen in the dining room earlier in
the evening making a speedy retreat to their staterooms.
I can't say enough about the staff that went out of their way to please, serve
and entertain.
We booked both the Blue Lagoon and the limousine tours for our trip ashore at
Nassau and both were throughly enjoyed by all of us but by doing both tours
there was little time to shop at the Straw Market before getting back on the
ship so that is something that you might want to consider when choosing the
events for your day ashore.
In a nutshell, the food onboard was very good, the staff outstanding and whole
experience fantastic.
I am now sold on cruising as the only way to go. As a matter of fact we are
already planning our next two. One to the Western Caribbean and another to
Alaska, so thank you Regal Empress for opening up a whole new world for me!
