Ship: Island Escape
Sailing Date: May 23rd, 2005
Itinerary: Western Mediterranean
This was our 7th cruise on Island Escape and we felt the standards had dropped. The ship looks more than ready for a make over.
Our cabin was on aqua deck number 3574, right at the back of the ship, So we had all the engine noise. The cabin was adequate although there was rust on the bathroom floor and the wash basin was badly chipped. There was a chunk of trim missing from wardrobe door and the bottom of wardrobe had been very badly filled. I had a new jacket ruined by it catching in the hinge of wardrobe door. Although I was compensated, after some haggling, I could not wear the jacket again. The storage space for a 14 night cruise was inadequate.
The food and service in the Oasis was 1st. class but the other restaurants were not so good with food being served lukewarm. We twice had tables in the Island Restaurant with dirty table cloths. There were regularly items missing on the table i.e. teacups at breakfast or no knives on the side plates. Eating in the Beachcomber, especially on the days at sea when all passengers were on board, resembled a busy day in any fast food chain.
This may sound down beat but we still enjoyed ourselves. The staff did try to be helpful and were always pleasant and courteous.
We have also cruised on the Island Star where conditions are much more spacious.
I do not think we will go back on the Island Escape until it is updated.
