Itinerary: coastal voyage

Fun trip. The route is mostly in protected waters and inside passages, so the ride was smooth. Our tour leaders on this Vantage group tour were funny and efficient. Some of the stops are only 30 minutes long, as the Hertigruten ships are the ferries, mail, and cargo 'mules' for all the coast of Norway. Take time to stroll around the tiny villages (watch your time.) May was a little early for spring flowers, but starting at Bergen and going to the top of Norway, we went into winter, then came back down into spring. I enjoyed it. Wear a warm coat -- the air is chill in May.

Norwegian food is heavy on fish, and I was intrigued by the 10-12 kiinds at each meal -- even breakfast. But there was a huge buffet, so there were many other thngs to eat. The desserts are many and varied.

Our inside stateroom was fine. I got a cough, which might have been from something in the room, but the stewards cleaned religiously.

Lectures on birdlife, native peoples, and Norwegian history were terrific.

Try at least one bus trip inland. Most of the ewes had twin lambs, some with triplets. The "Laplanders" and the reindeer were fun to visit.

Nice trip. I'd go again.
