Loved the decor! Rooms are small but beds are comfortable. There were primarily families w/ children & older couples. Some common areas are small (were on the NCL Dawn 2 years ago where some common areas seemed more spacious). 24-hour restaurant (The Blue Lagooon) was spacious and have yummy fish & chips (NCL Dawn 24-hour restaurant was little more than a hallway). Pool area is small - not enough lounge chairs near the pools. The staff refused to remove towels, personal items that were placed on chairs early in the morning and left vacant for hours (signs are posted everywhere stating that any personal items left unattended for 30 minutes will be removed in fairness to all wanting to lounge at the pool). One staff member told us that they didn't want to upset the passengers that left their towels there . . .
Buffet food (Garden Cafe) was very good - although, by the end of our trip we were getting a little tired of it . . .

The Garden Cafe buffet has a nice variety of food. We ate most breakfasts at the buffet - my husband loved the yogurt bar (a variety of fruits available to mix in with your yogurt) and omelet bar. They also have eggs benedict, fresh sliced salmon, boxed cereals, hot oatmeal, lots of fresh fruit, homefries, bacon & sausage, assorted breads, scrambled eggs, sausage gravy.

Because we had such a hardy breakfast, we didn't eat much for lunch - we would either have a salad or a late burger from the pool restaurant.

For dinner we went to both included restaurants (Grand Pacific and Magenta), the buffet 1 night and also Teppanyaki. We had either salmon or lobster each night at the Grand Pacific and Magenta. The food at Garden Cafe didn't change so we became bored very quickly! Teppanyaki was fun - but pretty much the same as the Japanese restaurant, Hibachi, that we go to at home.

Room service menu is also included (although there is an expanded selection available at an additional cost). We ordered room service a few days that we just wanted something light to tide us over until dinner.

We had a balcony room on the 10th floor. I need to be able to open a door to let a little air in every so often! Very clean and kept pretty well. They didn't replenish all coffee items each morning, but otherwise we were very happy with the stateroom. Our room on the Gem was a bit smaller then our room on the Dawn. But all bedding was new and very comfortable. Storage space was sufficient - we had 3 small drawers, a row of 4 open shelves, and 3 additional shelves (1 with the t.v. and the other where the coffee maker was kept). On the Dawn, we had drawers underneath the t.v., now that holds an additional stool. We also had a corner make-up area w/ a shelf and extended it with a small table that fit under the shelf.

We went to several shows. We really enjoyed the dancers - saw an around the world show with rock music, Irish dance (advertised as Irish tap - not Irish step-dance), African dance, Spanish, etc; 70's night - this was alot of fun!

We went to the magician show - this was fun, but I was disappointed by the adult humor and the scantily clad women in this show. We went to the 7:30 show so we could take our daughter - she is almost 12 and was mortified by the bikinis that the girls wore for part of the show! One skit during the show, the magician is talking about "skin" while counting outloud. One-skin, two-skin, three-skin . . . skips four with a knowing look and goes to five-skin. During another skit, he pulls a man out of the audience and tells him to stay on the stage while he goes to get him a chair. In the meantime, the three assistants come in with a chair and do a mock lap dance!

While at the pool one afternoon, they did a sexiest legs competition among the men. After finding several men to participate in the competition, they had to find judges - they were looking for sexy, hot mamas to do the judging.

Overall we really enjoyed the trip. I'm not sure if we'll do Norwegian again - it may be time to check out some of the other cruise lines.
