Cruise Line: Norwegian Cruise Line
I had read so many negative
reviews of this ship, and I was really worried about booking a cruise on this ship. Last year was my
first cruise on the NCL Sky, and it was a wonderful vacation. I knew that this was a old ship. We
had booked on the Norway, Sky Deck-K051, a suite with floor to ceiling windows. The room was
beautiful and a lot of room in the bathroom with a bathtub/shower combination. We were located a
very easy access to one of the pool areas. My nephew, his wife, and daughter were booked beside us,
their window had a covering over it, they complained and it was fixed at once. Upon arrival we had a
bottle of champagne and fruit in our room, plenty of closet space and a safe in our room.
We had a wonderful room
steward, Shadeo, he was so nice and polite. We had a 10 year old in our group and he made animals
for her bed at night, went out of his way to make sure she had a good time on her cruise. He let her
borrow a scrabble game to use for the week. Shadeo let us borrow for the week the complementary
guest robes, that they returned at the end of the cruise.
He was so wonderful, and it
was really hard to say goodbye to him because he helped us in every way he possibly could.
In the dining area, we were in
the Leeward Dining room at the first seating. We had Reggie and Larry as our waiters, we were a
group of my sister and I, my nephew, his wife, 10 year old daughter, and my nephew's wife sister,
husband and their 16 year old daughter. Reggie was from St Lucia, and he kept us all entertained all
week in the dining room. He had the cutest laugh that the 10 year old just loved, plus he made
little cat meow's to her to make dining a enjoyable experience for her. We all enjoyed them so much
and it was hard to say goodbye to them also. We really enjoyed the Outdoor Restaurant for breakfast,
that was my favorite meal. I like the French toast, bacon, croissants were all good. At lunch they
had the big kettle grills, and the ribs were absolutely wonderful. I liked the lunch at the outdoor
restaurant, they had a good selection, the hamburgers were hand made patties, they were very good.
The 3:00 cookies were so good, especially the oatmeal raisin and I do not like raisins at all. They
had rocky road, chocolate chip, and the macadamia nut were all great! I sure miss those 3:00
cookies, and having my bed turned down every night with a piece of chocolate on my pillow.
The crew on the Norway was
very helpful in every way. In the stores on the ship they were very nice. They had a great band on
the pool deck, Roots Link, they were on the Sky last year, and they were on the Norway, it was great
to see them again. They gave my nephew a new CD because he had worn his other one out.
I enjoyed my cruise on the
Norway very much, it is a beautiful ship, even if it is an old ship. It was unique and special to
cruise on a ship that was an ocean liner not one of the mega ships of the future. I found the cruise
on the Sky to be a very rough ride, but the Norway just glided through the ocean so smooth.
We did the Under 2 Flags tour
in St Maarten, we enjoyed seeing both sides of the island in an air-conditioned bus. We found things
to be a lot cheaper on St Maarten than in St Thomas. We did the St John Island Tour for St John. St
John is a beautiful unspoiled island. Trunk Bay is absolutely beautiful. Words can not describe the
beauty of this island. We did this tour in open safari bus, but it was wonderful because it is very
cool in the tour area.
It was a great vacation and it
was so hard to say goodbye to all the crew because it was an incredible week. On Saturday, we had a
medical emergency before the Great Stirrup Cay. We usually ate lunch at the Outdoor Restaurant, but
things happen for a reason, we had to eat in the international lounge because of the crowd. The
captain announced that they had to clear the back pool deck and part of the Outdoor Restaurant
because of a helicopter rescue. A passenger had either a stomach aneurysm or a collapsed lung. The
Coast Guard came to get him. The Coast Guard lowered the basket to get the medical tech, then they
lowered the basket for the passenger. We never did hear how he was. The captain let us stay at the
private island an hour later because of the delay of the helicopter rescue.
They had a very good band in
the sports bar. It was a wonderful cruise on the Norway. It was great to really cruise on a cruise
ship not one of the mega ships with the neon lights. The Norway is a beautiful ship, the crew made
the week wonderful, and it was so hard to say goodbye to all of the very special people we met. I
would cruise on the Norway again.
We did have a refrigerator in
our room. One day they brought chocolate covered strawberries, another day they brought shell shaped
Belgium chocolates. It was a fantastic week. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. I was
very shocked at the negative reviews that I had read before the cruise and I was concerned about
going on this cruise. I did feel safe on this cruise at all times. I hope that NCL will continue to have cruises on the Norway. It is was so nice to see how cruises used to be instead of all the glitter and the neon lights of the modern cruise ships. To me, the Norway is what a cruise is really all about. I just hope that everyone considering a cruise will think of the Norway because she is part of the history of cruise ships. Ask a Question About NCL, Norwegian Cruise Lines
