This was a very disapointing experience for my Wife and I. I am glad it was not our first cruise or it probably would have been our last. I am sure some of the guests on this cruise felt it was the best time of there lives, but compared to our other cruises we were disapointed with the service we received.
The food in the buffet and the main dining rooms was mediocre at best, there was a very limited offering in the main dining rooms, and on one night my wife was served a RAW strawberry souffle. If you want iced tea with your meals in the main dining room you should ask for it as soon as you sit down or you will be nearly finished eating when you get it. I feel this is somewhat intentional to try to encourage people to use the "specialty restaurants" which range from 10.00 to 25.00 per person plus the expected tip, we only tried Salsa's which was very good with excellent service. In the buffet areas most of the iced tea dispensers were not working for most of the cruise, the same ones were used for juice during breakfast and worked fine then, go figure?
When we boarded the ship we had to wait about 3 hours for our cabin to be ready and when we entered we could not believe how dirty it was, there was a very heavy coating of dust on everything in the room, much more than could happen in just a couple of days. when we complained we were told if we would leave it would be re cleaned, after about an hour we returned and it was much better but still not what we would expect. During our cruise I think our Steward was mad because of the first complaint because we did not receive even the most basic of service we had on our other cruises, on Tuesday night we had only one wash cloth which we shared just to keep peace, on Friday night we had NO wash cloths, after calling the desk to complain we were brought 2 cloths, when I got in the shower and was all wet I discovered we also had no shower gel. During the week we only had turn down service one night, and no towel animals.
There was not a lot to do on board unless you like Nintendo wii, there were some decent movies in the theater.
Bingo was played most days it costs from 25.00 up to 89.00 to play 4 games with prizes ranging from around 100.00 to 200.00. The casino has the tightest slots I have ever seen, the largest jackpot won during our entire trip was just under 2000.00 and that was the only large pot. The stage shows were pretty good except for the comedien. The magic show was excellent, as were the dance shows.
We tried the discover Samana excursion and were disappointed. We waited almost an hour for our bus to leave because they said 3 more people were coming, they never showed up. After driving about 30-35 minutes we stopped at a road side shop which had a few local crafts and handmade cigars for almost an hour. We continued to the other side of the island, another 30 minutes or so where we were told that because we were running so late we only had 25 minutes befor we had to be back on the bus which only left enough time to find a restroom and run back to the bus. The Coral World excursion was very nice if you like to see animals and nature in an upclose setting. We were really looking forward to the cain beach chillout in Tortola which was cancelled due to lack of interest. Great Stirup Cay was pretty nice just to walk around and relax.
After returning home from our cruise we wrote NCL a detailed letter about the service we basicly did not receive, after about 3 weeks we received a response with an appology and a 100.00 per person credit to use on a future cruise which can not be used with any other discounts or credits, this is basicaly what any returning customer receives so we really didn't get anything. NCL definetely won't be getting anything else from us.
