This was our 3rd cruise, 1st on NCL. (Carnival and Royal Caribbean prior) We chose it because of the freestyle dining. Realizing that everyone has different expectations from a cruise, I will post my pros and cons as they relate to me. We would consider NCL again but not the Dawn for a number of reasons that will be explained in each category.

The food was okay but rates 3rd as compared to the other two cruises. Even Carnival had a better selection and better quality. Royal was far superior when it came to the food category. What was good? The Blue Lagoon had great wings, burgers and chicken fingers. The buffets were boring and was pretty much the same every day. The two fancy restaurants that were included had good food but both restaurants had the exact same menu. If you wanted to change it up, you had to pay a cover charge to go to the other restaurants--we didn't bother.

we had a balcony on the deck 9. The first evening, our neighbours arrived and we could hear clearly every word they said. My wife went over to let them know as a courtesy so they were aware they don't have any privacy. THe next day, they continued and we realized we it wasn't just thin walls, it was because they were loud obnoxious talkers. We didn't hear our other neighbors at all. FInally, at midnight, we had to ask them to keep it down. The next day they continued to be too loud so we went to the desk to see what we could do. Problem was, they weren't partying, they were just loud talkers...we were embarrassed to find out they were fellow Canadians :( . Anyways, the ship managed to find us another cabin with a balcony on the other side, same level. We immediately moved. Our new neighbors spoke at normal levels and we enjoyed our vacation from this point forward.
Rooms are very small as compared to Carnival and RC. One good thing was the noise in the hallway was not noticed as compared to Carnival and RC--better doors? The bathrooms are small but the water pressure was great in our first cabin. There is a sewage smell that comes up through the toilet--you have to keep the bathroom door closed so you don't smell it in your room.

we went to a number of shows include a comedian, magician, crew entertainment--all were very good!!! Must say the entertainment was the best as compared to Carnival and RC. Pool area is very small and crowded but we managed to find a lounge chair every time-lots of different areas to relax on the ship including a quiet area at the front.

we did the bike and snorkel in Caymans and ruins in Cozumel. Both were great and well worth it.

Overall, we had a good trip--we know that it can't be perfect and enjoyed what we can. I have to say the staff on NCL were the best in making you feel welcome and comfortable. Carnival they all tended to not speak English until the last day, tip day.
