Norwegian Dawn Cruise Review

Cruise Line: Norwegian
Ship: Norwegian Dawn
Sailing Date: December 21st, 2003
Itinerary: Bahamas

Boarding didn't go very well. They check you in quickly but no one offered to take our bags and we had alot of trouble finding our stateroom which meant we had to lug very luggage all over the ship. On another note, you can board the ship as early as 12:30.

We had a room with a large window. The room was spotless but somewhat small. They have an excellent blow dryer so leave the one you have at home. The room also had a safe, mini bar and a good amount of storage space. The room can fit up to four but I think that would be very cramped. Since it was just myself and one other person we had enough room. The staff cleans the room twice a day and they do a great job! Every night the man who took care of our room left us an animal made out of towels. It was adorable!

The food was excellent. The desserts were particularly good and some of the soups were amazing! The three main restaurants all have the same menu. I thought the most beautiful interior was the Venetian. Classy and spacious. There are three restaurants at which you have to pay a cover charge Cagney's steak house, Le Bistro, and the Bamboo an Asian restaurant. We didn't go to any of them so I can't comment. Even if you don't eat at Le Bistro make sure to go in so see the beautiful original art they have. There is also the Garden Cafe which serves a breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet. All three meals are very good but breakfast was my favorite. Finally there is a Trattoria and a Mexican restaurant which I did not go to.

The staff was wonderful. I didn't meet one person who wasn't friendly and helpful. Everyone goes out of their way to make sure you are satisfied. One night when the Venetian was crowded the service was slow. Aside from that, we had no complaints.

The ship had a great spa and fitness center. They offer great classes everyday at the gym (yoga, pilates, kickboxing etc) for only $5. The ship had an indoor and outdoor pool. Both were very nice but the outdoor one tended to get crowded so I'd suggest going to the one inside. There were 7 hot tubs and one hydro therapy tub. 6 were outdoors and one was in the spa. The hot tub in the children's area is actually good to use because it is much less crowded (and not kitty size). There was a very nice library, tons of board games and chess and checker boards in the card room. There was also a jogging track, a basketball and volleyball court, ping pong tables, shuffleboard and a life size chess board.

The entertainment was good. There were shows every night. They have a surprisingly good broadwayesque company with some excellent dancers. They did a bollywood show and a show where they did a variety of different songs. Both were very enjoyable. I also saw a standup comic and magic show which were both ok. They also had live bands playing, karokee and parties every night in the Spinnaker lounge.
