Norwegian Dawn Cruise Review

Susan

Occupation: nurse
Number of Cruises: 5
Cruise Line: Norwegian
Ship: Dawn
Sailing Date: June 26th, 2005
Itinerary: Bahamas

We were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary with our children and grandchildren. We saved for a long time to enjoy this cruise, as we were treating . I must say the Dawn is a very beautiful ship. Our first port was great. The entire family went to Universal studio's, and we had a wonderful time. Our second port, Miami, we had the Duck Tour scheduled. We sat on the open tour for 70 minutes and never reached our destination. Detours and Arena traffic had us riding around the same blocks for 70 minutes. When passengers on the tour started chanting "take us back to the ship" we were finally able to go back. Our fees for the excursion were refunded, I would have accepted nothing less. Great Stirrup Cay is a beautiful island but, too small for the ships passengers. Not enough chairs or umbrella's were available. Due to a technical problem our stop in Nassau was cancelled. We spent the following 60 houes on the ship traveling back to New York. I feel the ship could have been repaired in Nassau as well as New York. I was worried about our safety traveling with one propeller. Nassau was to be the highlight of our trip, since my children and grand children have never been there.

On the 4th day of our trip our room was never cleaned. Someone changed the wheel on our door to do not disturb. We called to notify the staff but only received clean towels. Our bed was never made and our dirty towels were in the bathroom until the next day.

Freestyle dining is not for me. We waited one hour for a table for 8 at Impressions Restaurant. I have been on 5 other cruises and enjoy the relationship formed with the same waiter each evening without ever waiting to be seated. I would prefer to leave my tips at the end of the cruise. I am not a fan of the daily service charge. Several nights after dinner we tipped our waiters for their excellent service. We also put their names in the comment box so they would be recognized for a job well done. Celebrity Cruise Line has been our choice in the past and will be in the future. My family and I agree Norwegian Cruise Line just does not compare.
